Selling tails?

This kinda goes along with another thread but I have been wanting to create this for some time now it's just I don't have much puter time these days...

I have 3 horses who had a run in with a piece of fence a few weeks ago and got wire tangled in their tails. (My flippin' goats tore a piece down and I didn't know it for a day or two.)

Anyway, I got the wire out but they all have a good size knot at the bast of the meat of their beautiful tails. These are not, knots that you can get out, but there is several feet of very nice tangle free tail below it. I need to cut out the knot but I'll loose so much tail that I thought I would try to save it and maybe sell it? I know ASB people used to be big on that but I don't have a clue if I could even sell them. I just feel like it's such a waste to just cut it off.

I have a really nice EXTREMELY thick chestnut tail, a grey tail, and a dun tail and maybe a black tail also.

Does anyone have a clue if you can do this?

The problem is they're knotted. Even if you found someone who made extensions who was willing to purchase them, you won't get top dollar as there's not guarantee how much tail they'll be left with after unknotting it.

My best suggestion would be if you want to cut it, save as much tail as you can for your horse, put a piece of electrical tape (or vet wrap) right below where you're going to cut (so the tail hairs stay secure) and cut -- once you've cut it, do your best to get the knots out....and go from there.

Maybe I should try and get a pic of it... What I am going to cut it not, knotted. The entire tail is in wonderful condition and easily brushed and picked through except for the the very base of the meaty part of the tail. My thought was to wash it, comb it out nicely and cut below the knot. That would honestly leave 3+ feet on one horse whose tail drags if not kept up.

In the long run what I would be cutting would not be knotted.

if you cant find an extension and decide to not cut the knows out...all i can tell you is to patiently work them out...my stud with i got him had a knot like that, my grandfather cut it out before i could stop him(and before i owned my boy) and it took 2 years to get it to look right. if you slowly work it out from the bottom up youll be able to keep most of the tail without cutting it. its just going to take a few days to get it complete. ummm, try using a really good detangler like cowboy magic and just put some on the knot work it in carefully, try to avoid scrunching it(that can cause more knots) then you can get a hair pick..like for us?...and pick it out from the bottom thats the best advice that i can give you on that..oh, and dont pull down to hard on the know...hehe youll have a dickens of a time getting it out then.

I have gotten some really bad knots out by just spraying it and working free a few hairs at a time. It is time consuming, but I've always thought saving the tail was worth it.

Trust me I have picked out my share of knots and I got out ALOT of these knots but there is one part that is NOT coming out. I'll try and get a picture of it today. I actually love picking out knots so I'm not doing this as an easy way out. I actually thought about just leaving them in but I figure it will just keep getting worse.

I may just try cutting the knot itself out and see what I get...

If you do cut, try making a cut vertically through the knot then coat with something to lubricate the hair and try working it out again. You will still lose a fair bit of the hair, but you may be able to salvage most of it. Just a thought to try to keep from losing the whole section.
