Second lil Colt. The saga of Dusq.

Here is our second Baby of the year. He was completely rejected by his Dam, who kicked him, squashed him up against the fence, and just generally mistreated him. Her bag was DRY! After a couple of days of unsuccessfully trying to bond "Mom", We had to separate them. The Vet did a bloodwork on him, and his Colostrum was only at 240! He was weak, beat up, malnurished, dehydrated, and just generally in poor shape, so we all decided to take him to Grandmas house to hand nurse him for about three months. Hes strong now, sharp as a tack, and playfully energetic, after a good IV of plasma, some antibiotics, and regular feeding at 2 hour intervals. At the time of these pics hes only three days old.
We named him Dusq.

I love the pics. He is adorable and it sounds like a lot of work!

What breed is he?

Poor little fella. He's had a rough start to his life!

I'm sure he'll be really cute once he gets a little more meat on him though...

I'm sorry to hear that the mare rejected him. But, I'm glad to hear that he's doing okay. He's a cutie too!

If you have any questions please feel free to PM me. We raised an orphaned colt last year from day 1---I'll answer any questions you have to the best of my ability!

Thanks yall. Specially you, prettyqtrs. Hes Arabian (Masquerade x HR Bey Rose). A newborns Colostrum level should sit comfortably at 2000 or so, but 600 to 800 will do, as long as said baby looks and acts to be in good health. This was Bey Roses first Colt, by the way, and judging by Pauls reaction to the whole situation, probably her last, here on this ranch, anyways...
