    Salt Licks

Which salt lick is best for horses. I have access to the blue, brown and white ones. I'm using the brown (mineral) ones now. What is in the blue ones? I'm aware that the white ones are pure salt.

Blue ones? I don't think I have ever seen a blue block.

The "best" salt lick for any given horse depends on their individual needs and the rest of their diet. Can you tell us more about your horse? Age? Sex? and what his/her diet consists of (type of hay and amount per day if you've had it tested those results - and type of grains and/or concentrated feeds and supplements and amounts per day)?

I beleive the blue has extra Selenium in them for areas that lack it. The best? Depends on what you feed your horses, if they have access to free choice min/via then white ones arer fine.

The ones that I have seen with extra selenium have always just been a sandy brown color.

The blue ones I'm talking about are called "Cobalt" salt licks and are blue.

My horses are most fond of the Himalayan salt licks (they used to make lamps out of it!).

I've never seen these around here before. Just learned about them online.

Our local tack shops just started carrying them about a month ago. I got my first few from dover for around $8.
