Saddlebred

I just started working with a 3yo by a saddlebred stallion named Whitsuntide Spot by Sultan's Sun Spot.

Can you guys tell me about the breed and if you know anything about these stallions I'd be thrilled!

Don't know anything about those stallions in particular, but in my experience Saddlebreds are a fun breed--they have alot of character, can be high strung, but not the fall to pieces type. What will you be doing with him?

I'm going to break him for the owner, and she just wants an nice quiet trail horse. His mom is not Saddlebred, but a WB-cross with something heavier a few generations down.

I like his temper, he is alert and sees everything, but stays calm and keeps listening to the handler. He looks a bit funny right now, very nice neck though, but underweight, so it's hard to see what he will look like when he get some muscle.

He moves kinda funny (for my eyes that are used to SWB mostly). Do Saddlebreds have different gaits than warmbloods?

Most ASBs are not born gaited, but are trained to gait, but he probably does have a differant way of going than a warmblood I'd imagine. They carry themselves higher....They do make nice trail horses, comfortable ride.
Typically they are long necked, and long bodied, with that big honkin head, but being young and filling out, plus being a cross, who knows what he'll turn out looking like
This is our ASB mare, she's pretty true to breed standards

I'll try to remember to bring my camera this weekend and maybe wash him first (winter fur still on, and dusty as can be).

You can tell he got that long body, and he's got a HUGE head! Nice hooves.

Got pictures! But he has never been asked to stand still like this before, so there aren't really good pictures...

He was so pretty in that last picture I just had to add it. You can't really see how angly he is.

He's cute! You can definitly see both sides of his breeding, but I think he'll mature nicely.

You can see he's part WB and part SB.

Saddlebreds are great horses.....versatile, intelligent, spirited, and can be "hot" I love riding them.

Thanks!

People are not thinking well of this cross here in Sweden, in fact looking down on the owner... soooo stupid! This horse really got the best from his parents I think. Intelligent is he absolutely, learns quicker than any WB I broke.
