Saddle Shopping Again. :-(

My trainer and I decided my Stubben just doesn't fit Regal. It looks like it does, but I was having a terrible time getting him to round up and carry himself today, so we tried switching saddles and immediately he was moving better, round, on the bit and generally felt happier. It's good news and bad news, I guess.

My trainer wants my Stubben and wants to trade me for lessons, which is great, but now I don't have anything to put towards buying a new one!

There's no shops around here that sell decent brands of english saddles so no testing out, unfortunately. He seems to go well in my trainer's wintec (that's what we switched to today) but I'm not sure I want to go synthetic- but definitely don't want to waste my money on another saddle that won't feel good to him.

Any suggestions for a horse just generally very sensitive about his back?

Anyone with an 18" dressage saddle for sale?

I have one for sale. It's not a 'name brand' saddle. But it is well made. Only been on a horse...3 times I believe. The leather is stiff, but I believe that's just from not being broken in well yet.

I have a wintec western and I love it. I know english is different but wintec is a very good saddle. If you want a saddle that will fit almost every horse you put it on well get a wintec.

I hate that there are no good english stores around here.

Have you tried Horse Hardwear, they are exspensive, but you could check.

Also CM Tack, Kinda exspensive, but still check it out.

And your good friend E Bay LMAO

Wintec western saddles are nice.

However, their english saddles are not. The panels are not made and balanced correctly and will quickly put a horse into back pain.

Hmmm... I have an Isabell, and haven't had any problems with it. My TB has a fairly sensitive back, and he seems to go fine in it. I understand about not wanting to go synthetic, but the Isabell in my opinion is a very nice looking saddle, even though its not leather.

I actually only have good things to say about English Wintecs.

If you don't want synthetic try the Bates Close Contact. It's a leather version of the Wintec close contact.

It seems the majority of saddlers believe the opposite. Wintec english saddles are well balanced while their western saddles are a bit behind.

of course, because of our different builds personal experience may vary.

Every horse I've seen ridden in an english wintec has had back issues (after the use of the wintec, not before). And that covers quite the variety. From arabs, to qh's, to gaited, to tb's, and some mutts. Now I don't know as many people that use the westerns, but the ones I do, never had any issues. And I've (personally) never heard of any issues.

^ Yeah I have had my Wintec western for over 10 years and it has never given me any trouble and every horse I have had it on has responded very nicely to it.
