Saddle Fit

Here's another Collegiate Alumnus. The last one seemed alright except it needed to be an inch bigger for my bum/legs. So here's a 17" one that I found on ebay. I know it's not the perfect fit, but it seems workable from what I can tell. I think it's a little wide. I tried it with my Wintec front riser pad, but then it was too narrow. (But this was with a Poly pad... I really don't like the Wintec pad though. ) So if it's workable then I think I'd like to find a fleece or sheepskin 1/2 pad. I also did not get to ride in it very long today. It was raining and Crayon wasn't happy out in the rain and kept trying to exit the ring. And then it started really pouring so I got off. She was much more willing to go with this saddle and was really striding out more. She occaisionally clinks her front and back hooves while walking, but today I could hear it almost every step. (I think that's good?)

Anyway, here are my pictures. And if you think it's workable, please try to recommend a pad that will give us the extra width we need.

Sorry they're so huge.

Sorry about her winter fuzzies. We're lucky it's not colder yet or you might not see the panels!

And just for the sake of cute-ness, here's what Crayon does every time I tie her. She eats the lead.

Thanks.

You go through a lot of saddle fittings with your girl

I personally like the way it fits.
You could maybe use a build-up pad of some kind though because it looks
like it would rub her withers with someone in the saddle.

Just my opinon though.

She sure is cute

Thanks.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking about it being a little wide. I'm not sure what type of pad to get for it though because the Wintec front riser that I have doesn't seem to make it fit the way I want.

lol. It's her silly shoulders. If they weren't so darn sloped and flat-ish she'd fit in quite a few saddles.

Yeah I know what you mean.
hugo has the weirdest back.

I ride bareback a lot just because I seriously think he enjoys it better than with a saddle. I don't bounce, so it isn't too hard on his back.

Good luck with your search.

lol. Yeah, I rode bareback for awhile, but I really need a saddle to teach her to canter. And jump a little bit. Then who knows, maybe I'll like bareback better. I feel so high up on her in a saddle.

Oh I know the feeling!

Plus, with mutton withers, all the saddles would slide off of him when I mounted (I'm a horrible mounter), so I get really scared in a saddle.
I feel much more secure and safe bareback... I'm weird.

But I always lose faith in saddles. Haha.
At least I know it's my fault if I fall off bareback.. and I can feel it happening!

I think you've got something very workable there a little wide in front but you could easily find a way to pad it. I'm duct taping some skito shims to a plain pad tomorrow myself (yes, this is how I while away my time, duct tape and pads )

Haha... I can imagine how many ways a non-horse person might interpret "duct tape and pads" if you said that to them without mentioning a saddle.
