crayon, i know we've determined we live fairly close to each other before, i happen to have a wither relief pad that i needed for my shark finned boy, and now my dainty mutton wither would rather me muck her stall around her then put it on her! (it smells like BOY mom! i don't like BOYS) smart mare (;
if you'd like, I could either meet up with you, or I could package it and send it to you!

I am just not 100% sure that a wither relief pad is going to do the trick. Maybe if you get a mattes correction pad and only shim in the front? But I think any pad that's the same thickness throughout isn't going to work. But absolutely, give it a go and see if you can make it work-- because otherwise it looks like a good shape. You also might be able to find a saddle fitter who can "tweak" the tree a bit and/or maybe replace the foam with wool flocking to help the fit. Not as cheap as a shimmed pad, but a potential possibility if the pads don't work.

if u make any changes to the saddle I would sheet test the fit of the saddle. Take an old sheet and place it on her back then pad and saddle ride for a while and when u take it off it will show u pressure (dark) spots and light spots and it will tell u if the saddle and pad combo is working. don't brush too much so the dust on their back will leave a better imprint on the sheet.

Ok... So I tried the Winted front riser with a regular saddle pad today and she was much happier with that. Really stretching down and there was much less tail swishing than bareback. But when I looked at the dirt marks on the pad, it was obvious that the Wintec pad slanted the saddle backwards and put more pressure on the back end. So I guess I need somethign that is the same width all around, but with either a cutback over the wither or a hole over the wither.

I was stalking your threads to see if you found a saddle that fit yet. I have a suggestion about the wither relief. For some of the horses here at school who have wide shoulders but high withers they take a Wintec Comfort pad (http://www.statelinetack.com/item/wi...:referralID=NA) And cut it with scissors over the withers. It works really well for horses that are harder to fit, and doesn't add quite as much lift as the lift front pads.

I'm not sure if that makes sense so I drew this nifty diagram.

lol. That's so funny, I actually just did that with my Wintec pad before seeing what you posted! I ripped off riser pads on it and made a cutout. But unfortunately raising the pommel as much as it needed to be made the saddle too narrow.
