ata Brown and no agouti so brown and black bases and in sorrels this won't effect colors. YES IT WILL.... no bay offspring unless the mare provides it.
I'm not taking about the mares I'm talking about the specific DNA genetics.
at/a Will produce brown or black AND since he's Ee he will produce a sorrel and in that case the Agouti WILL NOT show up and Agouti status will NOT be known with out a DNA test so it will NOT affect the color of sorrels.

Crcr 50% chance of a cream gene Sire has the cream gene and this colt has been tested to have it.
That just means he's got a 50% chance of passing it on NOT a 50% chance that he's got it.

As for the terms Apricot Vs pearl,

Then why don't you e-mail the websites that are still using the term.

Okay I checked the link to UC Davis and they list it as Pearl ... I will check the others and let them know that it has been changed.

LOL I find it equally humors that you would use the CHOBOA as a source for champagne information as the horses they reference as being pearl were not given ICHR papers long before the test came out. Sorry there are several horses on that sight that are not as listed. They are not a reliable source of color information and trying to educate them is waste of time. LOL

Also guessed you missed this update on the last sight you listed:
Quote:
Update (Oct 22/06): UC Davis is now calling this dilution “pearl”. It’s been found to be the same gene, and most likely came to the Paint/QH gene pool through the breeds’ Spanish ancestry. Lovely how everything comes full circle.

Mary, I hope you showed this thread to your DH so he could see what good instincts you had. How very interesting about the genetics on this colt. I'm trying to remember the info I read about brindle, but the brain cells are aging at a rapid rate. I do know it can't be dominant because brindles do not produce nearly 50% or even close. Also, can he be brindle without showing it, or would the light color mask brindle markings. We must keep up with this boy and what he produces.

So - Mary? (I saw name in a reply) - you had a chance to buy the mare that was carrying this colt? Awsome!
Did I read that correctly??

Yes I had the chance to buy the mare when she was in foal for this colt. My DH said no so I do not own the mare or the colt. LOL I do know that he is indeed genetically correctly listed as the first sable cream dun QH.

He is pretty cute from the bad pictures they have. I wonder what he will look like in 3 years?
