I saw a thread where someone posted a horse as being a red roan, and then someone else said no shes a sabino and showed pictures of a "true" roan. Well, this got me wondering if my horse is considered a roan or a sabino. I have pictures and ill post close ups and far away ones so can u guys tell me what u think she is considered?? Thanks!!! |

She's an Appy with roaning (not a roan). The difference between having roaning and being a roan is genetic but is usually most easily told by the amount of white hairs. A horse that carries the appy pattern gene will not also carry the roan gene. It can carry other genes that will cause roaning though. Same as a Sabino. Sabinos are not roans. But the Sabino can carry the gene that causes roaning.
