That is wonderful....however, I do wonder how long it will last, before the mare starts testing the waters again, and whether the lady will feel comfortable nipping it in the butt before the old habits pop back up. Did it say how long he kept her in training? I still would never 100% turst that horse. But again, there are so many 'good' ones out there, I would never put time into a horse like that.

Oh goodness....I was about to open a thread about this guy.....the hole time on the last episode when he gave the horse back and showed her the stop and back up....left, right, left, right......ect.....pulling the one rein tells the horse to move that leg back....I just don't get that and find it stupid......and his leg positions of one, two, and three.....one at the horses shoulder means go.....2 at the horses rib cage means go faster, and 3 in the flank means move your hips.....I again don't get that and seems STUPID! for me one at the should and infront of the drive line means go back with a slight wiggle with my feet.....2 at the drive line means go forward and clucking/squeeze/kick means go faster, and 3 means move your hips.......GAH!!!!!!

I haven't seen his show but have read articles by him. His articles are sort of a re-hash of what all the other trainers say, only not said nearly as nicely. I have yet to read anything that made me think "wow! what a cool idea!" More like, "huh, that was weird."

Meet Ryan Gingerich, the Behaviorist From his days riding his ‘stick horse’ and playing the Lone Ranger to the animals on his Grandfather’s Indiana farm, Ryan Gingerich has a love of horses that seems to transcend the normal horse and rider relationship. His ability to get into ‘the mind of the horse’ allows him to rehabilitate horses others have decided are hopeless. He often says, there are no bad horses, only bad training.

Ryan began his professional horse career as a trail guide. His love affair with the horse then led him to complete a national certification program where he continued working after graduation. His ability to work with troubled horses was put to good use there, and he continued to develop the bond with these horses that today has him branded as ‘The Behaviorist’. This title is well earned not only through his natural ability but through study and the application of scientific research into horse behavior. Ryan frequently refers to Dr. Andrew Mclean, Director of the Australian Equine Behavior Centre. Dr. McLean was so impressed by his communications with Ryan that he paid his own way to the United States to work with Ryan in person. They continue to share knowledge.

Ryan has developed his training program, Connective Horsemanship, using a marriage of science and tradition. His five elements of Connective Horsemanship offer a simple language for the rider and the horse. These five elements consist of Basic Control, Lightness, Rhythm, Line and Connection. This language, used exclusivly by Ryan and his students, requires that the horse need give only one response to one cue. When used correctly, Ryan's methods lead to a “deletion” of the incorrect behavior. This eliminates confusion in the horse and owner helping both to relax and learn. Ryan uses this technique to rehabilitate horses with behaviors that range from bolting and bucking to buddy sour. His method crosses all disciplines and is used at his National Equine Behavior Center in Troy, Missouri to rehabilitate every breed of horse from off track Thoroughbreds to Quarter horses.
This has to be one of the most ridiculous things I have ever read... His "elements" are pretty much just the classic training scale with different words in a different order.. And the "psychology" he's using, is entirely human.. Go read any textbook on the subject and you'll find that he's just taking words from there and inserting them into his so called "training philosophy." I find it funny how he just takes others ideas and calls them his own. The part about his bonds with horses "transcending the normal horse and human bond" was just too much! What a load of carp! I do have a question though.. How long do you think it took them to twist this story together?

Since this thread came back I am going to chime in. I can't stand this guy either, here's one for you....in an episode I watched recently, he said you never sqeeze with both legs to make a horse trot, only one side so they are on the correct lead. I thought that was funny. Ya I am with everyone else, but there are still people out there that think he is the best.

Exactly! So he was trying to tell this lady that was the major problem with her horse not trotting properly, All I could think of was check the saddle fit and he said that he didn't like the way the horses feet were hitting the ground and to call the vet about his feet.
