I like how he says for like every horse "Thay have a stop and go issue."

Wow then EVERY horse does to him.

Some of these RFD tv horse shows are a real hoot. I don't often get to watch tv but with the short days and bad weather makes enjoyment of my horses kind of limited right now. Ken McNabb is another one I get a kick out of watching. They all seem to have little idosyncrasies and mannerisms in addition to what I think is marginal horsemanship that totally cracks me up.

Now, now though don't dis Ryan. He is quite proud of his 10 years of riding experience. I love the way some of them begin too with a worried 911 email from a fan and then he's off to the rescue. I almost hear the lights and sirens now, lol. Yes I saw that episode and was astounded how disturbing his methods were and the poor gray smacked his head on the roof of the trailer for an encore. He even let a bit of temper show, did anyone catch that? I just know that horse must have got one of those "behind-the-barn" lessons after the taping. If someone wants a truly deadly way to teach a horse to load, I think that one definitely fits the bill, sigh.

I was waiting for him to put the horses front foot on the trailer or jiggle a bucket of cookies in front of him to beg him to come in. Maybe that is in part two?

I'm not even going to bother watching part 2. Unless I have nothing better to do, who know I might even get a good laugh (on the trainers part).

My husband and I just finished watching the episode with the big gray TB -- oh my, we were totally...shall I say AMUSED? I am still giggling.

He had NO respect from the horse. Nada. He was ineffective with the horse, put himself in dangerous situations, lost the horse twice, PULLED on the horse several times, & did nothing to claim his personal space first & paid the price for it during the trailer "loading" -- which never happened. Oh, Hubby said..."Ya gotta watch it next week...to be continued!!

Last week we were pretty amused when he told the lady with the big bay that the arena would have to be her "trail" -- we wondered if he told THIS woman (with the gray) that she would just have to leave the horse at home and not trailer him??? I do want to see part 2 just to see if that is what happens!

Oh my. You guys were all way too kind in your posts! This guy is sad, really sad.

I am usually not moved to dis anyone...but this guy breaks my reserve.

I'll agree in saying that this guy rubs me the wrong way too.

He uses "alternate" methods, of the alternate method. Ha. (Not that there's anything wrong with the alternate method, just saying I think it's funny he feels the need to alter it more.)

And I saw the horse that wouldn't trail ride - if he's such a proffessional, why didn't he work with the horse on the trail/road some more? I've yet to watch the grey TB, but I'm sure it'll be an interesting show. :P

Honestly, he's got what, 10 years of riding experience? Same as me - and I'm fourteen. You don't see me with my own TV show :P

Ha ha...he admitted to being afraid to take the bay out on the trail! At least he was honest. Guy needs to grow a pair!

Yep, watch the one with the grey...it is amusing! You have to see it.

I am betting that if you DID have a show it would be a lot better than his!

lmao. I do in fact though like Parelli (which is also on RFD), they really put on a good show and their methods have really helped me understand horses more.

But yeah, I mean if your gonna be on TV, you at least shouldn't be afraid to ride a horse. All I really saw it do was sidepass and prance a bit. And it was probably from him being nervous about the horse too. If you can't do it - don't call yourself a professional.

I have it recorded, I beleive I'll have my fair share of laughs when I get around to watching it :P

I couldn't figure out why I didn't like him, either...but then I realized...

He tries WAY too hard to be something he isn't.

I've seen most, if not all of his shows, and I was not impressed either. I noticed when he rides a horse, he is very nervous, although he tries not to show it. He holds the reins much too tight, for fear the horse might buck, etc., but the horse often will shake its head as if to say, "Get out of my mouth!" And when he works with someone with a difficult horse, I noticed he doesn't stay on the horse for long. Once he said, while riding, "He may be getting ready to buck now." I don't remember any other clinicians saying stuff like that. And when he worked with the bay horse and bad rider, the rider had mentioned the horse only acts up when she rides him faster than a walk. Well, at the end of the show, he had her ride the horse in the arena, but no faster than a walk! And he commented on how well the horse was doing. In my opinion, you'd think he'd at least have her ride the horse at a trot to demonstrate that the horse had, in fact, improved.

RFD-TV does have some good shows. I'm a huge fan of Clinton Anderson. And I also like Craig Cameron. I've gotten a lot out of watching their shows.

With Clinton's show, things don't always go smooth, and he's very up-front about it. I've been to one of his live clinics, and what you see on the show is exactly what he does. Most of his shows are filmed during clinics, and if he wasn't honest in what he presents, you can sure bet the folks that attend the clinics would be up-in-arms about it. The down-side to the Downunder Horseman (pardon my pun): Although Clinton himself is entertaining, sometimes the show gets a touch boring as you watch him perform the "sending exercise" for the 100th time. But, the reality is that sometimes the work has to be done over and over until it becomes ingrained in both horse and horseman.

Craig Cameron is not as transparent, but I like his explanations and how he mixes up his show so it have a variety of subjects that he covers.
