Hi guys - thought I'd start this thread for anyone in the Texas area that can help with transporting horses from the path of Rita. Also needed are places to put these horses. One special case that I have is a coggins positive - 28 yr old mare. There are many more, but the most tragic one right now (goodness knows it may get worse) is a riding stable on the west end of Galveston - their transportation cancelled out on them - we need to move 40 horses. They have a place to stay. I have many more, and the calls keep coming in. Hopefully we can get everyone evacuated, so that this remains just that - an evacuation, and does not turn into a tragic rescue effort in the aftermath. Cat PS - for anyone that wishes to help with supplies, right now the most dire need is for shavings (one of the shelters has concrete floors), feed and possibly hay. |

If anyone heads to Amarillo, I can help them locate housing. PM me if anyone taking shelter here with horses. I know one that is coming here cause of family in this area. Also, contact horses for Humanities. They are located in Houston, and I believe are scrambling themselves. They may be able to help you locate a place for the coggins positive horse. That one will be almost impossible to find housing for.

I can't help as I am in Michigan and don't own a trailer, but I will pray for you, your family and your animals. Good luck to you and God bless. Please let us know how you are doing. ~Kimberly |

I appreciate the offer for Amarillo - If anyone is headed that way I will pm you. As for the HfH, actually, that is the other half of the organization that I am a member of - LoneStarEquineRescue/HabitatsForHorses. It is on their (our?) behalf that I am seeking this help. And yes, we ARE scrambling!! cat |

I'm apart of LSER as well. Trying to get more involved, but getting the time to do some of the required classes is a pain. LOL I'll keep my ears and eyes open for you for any place that might take any in.

barns in Houston aren't going to take horses, most of them are trying to evacuate as well. Kodis if you still need assistance with transportation, please go to www.horsegazette.com there is a forum link at the top. We have an entire database of places offering housing for horses/humans/dogs, and people with stock trailers that are willing to help haul if necessary. I talked to Ann up in Austin yesterday (with LSER) and asked her if y'all needed help with transportation and she said she didn't know, she thought it was taken care of. PLEASE go to that board and post your needs. I'm sure we can round up someone to help. We have a race barn who has closed the race barns down, so they have 200 stalls available in Seguin. We have another man in the Rosanky area that has pasture available for pasture horses. Chrissy |

Thank you very much - we have been going full bore right now. It is now official that the highway to Galveston will be closed at 6p, and changed to north bound only. Lazy F, I have been told that one of our group is already posting to that site, but I will double check my self as well. I appreciate the connection. And yes, we are also evacuating the Houston area and surrounding cities. The unofficial word is that the higways in houston will be changed to one way as of tomorrow, mayhaps sooner. NOW what we are going to try and set up is this: other than volunteers that can help during the interim of the storm in Austin, after the storm any and all that can help to rescue horses that may have been left behind are asked to contact me to let me know you can come to pull out horses - we will be gathering at the Austin Expo starting Sunday. Thanks to all of you for your support and thoughts and wishes and prayers. cat |

how many more horses do you need to get transportation for? I can possibly borrow a 3-4 horse slant and take the slants out. We can surely fit more than 4 in there. Let me know, I'll take off work and head that way if I need to. However, if it's changed to North bound only I don't think they will let us in.
