Rubbing/Shampoo question...and many others

My horse is rubbing his tail. Its reallllly irritating, so what can i do? i am putting MTG on it a few times a week, i have 2 shows coming up and i really DONT want an UGLY bald spot!

Suggestions?

Oh and the best thing for getting a white horse clean, other than quic silver? And any other suggestions for getting him clean/keeping him clean the night before the show. Oh and During the show, he poops on his legs, what can i do to get the poop stains out of his legs at the show???
And just any other smart tips you have for at shows, like stuff to keep him calm, and handy tricks or anything....

MTG could actually be causing the rubbing, some sensitive horses find it irritating.

My horse doesn't rub, but I have HEARD that mouthwash actually works to stop rubbing. I haven't tried it, but I have heard that many times. I have also heard using baby powder to keep white horses white. Or you can use cowboy magic green spot remover. And you could probably bring that along to shows to help out with stains.
Sorry I wasn't much help, but good luck.

I'd severely decrease your MTG applications to 1-2 times MAX per week. At this point I would wash your horse's tail REALLY good with an Anti-Fungal shampoo and not apply the MTG for a week or 2.

Also something to check, have you ridden hard lately to the point of sweating your horse up? There's a chance there's dried sweat or dirt/sand up and inbetween his hind legs causing irritation which inturn can cause tail rubbing...sometimes tail rubbing is a good indication of a needed sheath cleaning too

Okay thanks. I am only putting the MTG on his tail 1-2 times a week, since most of the time i forget. And lately i've been out of town.

for rubbing his tail, if it's really dry try to get it really clean first, then apply baby lotion or oil, and for the white try selsum blue also coal gets urine spots out of the coat as well..

sometimes horses rub their tails because they have worms. Do you think that might be the reason?

corn starch will really make any white pop. It works like baby powder but seems to have more glow to it and stays in better. With that in mind, it also sticks to clothing better. Its really only for legs and faces and its best to get it on before you get in your show clothing or remove your overclothes. As for keeping him clean for a show, get a show sheet, a sleazy etc. If you need to, do you have time to rewash legs quickly in the morning? I know some girls around here have to rewash legs the morning of the show because the horses will sleep in a pee hole and the sheet keeps everything but the legs clean.
