Roping or reining

Well i have a yearling and i am at a toss up of where i should start her training after she is broke. I have trainer that is going to break her for me since i have no idea what i am doing. But he aslo trains for roping and reining. She is a quarter horse she is going to top out at some where around 16 or 16.1 hands. She is going to be pretty wide. So i am not sure if i shoudl teach her to being a roping horse or a reining horse. Any suggestions?

What are her lines? If she is really going to top out at 16 I'd look at her as a roper for sure. However, regardless of if I'm training one for reined work or roping, they all get started the same way and need a solid foundation before spinning off into a certain discipline. If you are only getting 90 days of training on her, there shouldn't be any real distinction between the two "types" of training at that point other than letting her track some cattle during the last month of that training.

What is she naturally good at? Will she let you throw a rope around her? Does she track anything in her pasture now? To be a good rope horse she should be cowy or at least not afraid of a cow. Personally she seems a bit tall for a reiner... What are her pedigree lines...

Not sure of her line she is not registered....long story of her papers..she will pretty much let me do whatever around her. i am sure she would let me swing a rope oevr her head. i know she needs a good foundation jst trying to get some opinions on which direction i shoudl start looking at for her. Either way the same trainer will be doing all of the training. i am not sure how tall reining horse usually is i have a year old paint who is going to be learning how to reain but i was not sure about the height thing.

Sounds like she is built like a roper. Reiners are usually much smaller than that.

However, I think EVERY horse can benefit from reining training.
