I love rope halters I have to disagree with you MS, I think they're great to train with.

I actually need to go out and buy one, as mine got stolen...(which probably proves that people like them )

I like them for some things (ease of adjustment for multiple horses, use on the trail, etc) but I must say I cringe when my friends ship their horses in them. Maybe that's OK when they aren't tied, but these horses are tied in the trailer to the rope halter. That's a disaster waiting to happen.

How is that any worse than a shipping halter? Sorry I do not understand your post at all.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my rope halter. I've used it on a mare that would just pull me around with a nylon halter. With the rope halter she was improved about 50%, with training, she was improved 20%.

I think they look neat, as long as they are well made, and not really thick rope.

I love rope halters! Unfortunately mine were taken... and I can't find a big enough one for the horse I'm riding now. I saw this one that would have looked SO purdy on him, and had a little bit of rawhide on the nose band. But of course he's a monstrosity of huge heads.

Ali got spoiled and has a leather halter, which I LOVE. I don't really have anything against the nylon ones... I have 2 right now! LOL

HHF - do you show in that halter as well? I've never seen that before!

Use use them everytime I'm out with my horses. Our horses excite REALLY easy so I use them to keep them under control. I like them so much I bought a rope hackamore. Midnight had all winter off, and this past week was the first he's been ridden since last year. He spooked but he calmed right down with the hackamore on him. I love 'em!!Lol.

At the foundation shows you do show in rope or cowboy halters as they are called. You cannot show with any silver, just working tack.

What size rope halter do you need? I might have one or be able to get on to work for you.
