Unhappy Roaching a mane....

My Clyde/Morgan has a horrible mane. I roached it, using scissors, because he is terrified of the clippers. It looks OK, but can anyone tell me the best way to do it with scissiors, so it looks a little bit polished??
He's got a thicker neck, but not overly heavy, and it looks good roached, but it takes me FOREVER to do it....

I will try and post some pics tomorrow or the next day...

Thanks!

My mare is also terrified of clippers. I had to clip her for show last month and what I did was get the majority of the hair off with scissors, then follow up with a human razor to even it out. It worked really good. You can also use these little horse silent trimmers called 'Win By A Nose silent horse trimmers,' I got them at a tack shop down the street but you can purchase them online at raraequus. A human razor works just as well as they do though, so it's mostly personal preference.

I don't know if you can buy them any more, but I used to have a pair of hand clippers. That is, they were operated by squeezing a handle, and weren't electric, so they didn't freak the horses out (we used them for groom squad competition, where nothing electric was allowed). Might be worth looking for.

Ooh, they do still make them! Amazon.com: Wahl Hand Clipper: Kitchen & DiningAmazon.com: Wahl Hand Clipper: Kitchen & Dining
