Roaching a mane....

One of our new horses has the most disgusting mane. ( I will try to post pics later from home ) Anyhow, it is 80% rubbed out with 10% sticking up in the air about 2 " and the other 10 % about 8 " long. It looks BAD. So here's my question, should I just roach it off and start over and hope to grow a healthy mane? Or should I plod along with this and hope for the best? At least if I roached it I could put a slinky on it once it started to grow, and by spring it may be laying down abit? How much do you think it would grow in 6 months???? Thanks in advance for your help .

get the clippers out!!! bwahaha

on a horse with a neck that can pull it off...i LOVE a roached mane. And on those that can't...you'd be surprised how quickly it'll grow back out to a normal length.

I roached mine not long ago. It is a great way to "RESET" the mane after a nasty rubbing job.

Just don't cut the tails. I'm still scratching my head on a fellow border who not only roaches the mane, forelock, but the TAIL to and UP the dock!!!!!!!!!

Yes, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT cut the Forelock or Tail. I think that looks so ugly. Especially when people cut the forelock. Why....why do people do that???

I dunno, but if I ever get face to face with the border here, I'll find out what gerble is running her mind.
