I hear that the average mane will start to lay over within 6 months or so and will actually be 'long' in a year.

You can help it along by using good grooming, good feed and mane growth products.

Depends on the horse... sometimes it is hard to get it to lay back over. I have seen horses with a rather tall mohawk.

Hehe I used to ride a AppyXWB and he had the funniest longest mohak... it was long, but soo sparse...
it was the hardest thing to braid for dressage shows.

I roach Obie's mane, and last time I let it grow out, it took about 4 months to be long enough that I could have pulled/thinned it and made it look good for braiding. I roached it off again though. I love how it looks, and it's low maintenance! Here he has about 4 weeks of growth, and it's a good 1 inch long.

It depends on the horse...but average would be about an inch a month. Good feed, care and mane products can help. Like MTG.

It will probably still be sticking up. If it were me, I'd roach it neatly about 2-3 weeks before the fair, and then work on growing it out after that.
