riding with split reins

My sister says she doesn't like split reins anymore cuz she dropped hers the other day (last week I think) and something happened when she went to get it and her horse freaked and bucked her off (she says her booty still hurts, lol!) then Jess took off and stepped on one of the reins and snapped it (I brought it home with me last night so we could drop it off at an amish place where they fix tack). now my sis says she won't ride with split reins anymore, any of you agree? I guess that a whole rein (what do you call reins that aren't split???) would be a bit safer, and easier cause you don't have to get your hands in the right spot on two reins. what do you all think?

I haven't really had a problem with either, but a one piece rein would be a LOT harder to drop! Glad your sis is ok!!

i ride with split reaind. you just need to watch what you are doing and hold them right at all times. if she is worried tie the ends, or put a piece of leater or rope or something at the ends of them to hold them together.

i havent had trouble only once but nothing major the horse didnt freak out he just stopped. when i was shown my western pleasure pony that happened but she didnt flip so we bought like a little leather ring and it goes around the reins and holds them in place and they cant tell for pleasure classes
GOOD LUCK!

I ride with both. I like the split reins because they are nice to use a crop when you don't have one with you. When I ride with one piece reins, I usually have a crop with me.

Personal I like it whole reins(no real reason), at my schooling barn all the horses have nylon reins and there spilt and tied together. Holding them spilt shouldnt be a problem cause u should hold them correctly at all times. Tho Zip's reins always come undone and when they are tied they r 2 short!

I dont think they are meaning when you use a double bridle and 2 sets of reins, but when there are litterally "split reins"

Imagine regular reins, but undone at the buckle. That way you have one rein in each hand.

Anyways, I've ridden with them a couple of times, I dont really like them...

I love riding with my split reins but I find the only use I have nfor them nowadays is when im cutting or reining. I use roping reins when im roping and my mecates or training/trail ridding. Iv never had a problem with them. I find it easier to put begginer ridders up on the horse with out split reins though. Then they don't have to figure so much out. Thats not to say I have broken a few reins before because a horse has walked over them because I have loads of time lol.

Your sister will ride better with whatever she feels comfortable with so nothings really better then the other unless your btalked disipline specific

When I rode western, I rode in split reins, more for vanity than anything else. I thought it looked cool And if you need to, you can always just tie.
