So, I am working with an older lady at my barn and she is helping me with my riding. We are doing a bit of dressage once a week. Last week she gave me a book 'Riding Logic' by W. M üseler. So far it is fantastic, and I'm only on page44! I've have learned a lot just from reading this and can't wait to put some of it into practice as it really does make a lot of sense. I really wish instructors could say these things like this so people could understand better LOL Ever since our 'lessons' I am riding much better, and actually understanding why I am doing some of these things, and why some things I was doing was so ineffective! Has anyone else ever read this book? Did it help your riding?

I have never read that book, but I'm a huge fan of 'The Truth About Horses' by Andrew McLean. Certainly changed my view of riding and helps me understand my horses better

I think it is an amazing book...I think it was published back in the 70s or 80s but it has soo much good information, that I honestly think it would help anybody ride better! I have never read 'The Truth About Horses' is it about training more or riding more?

'The Truth About Horses' is more about general horse behaviour as well as training horses and how they re-act to what WE do to them. Its about giving clear aids your horse understands naturally - not schooling them to be so stuffed up and confused in their head. Just teaching your horse the basic stop/go aid changes your riding quite dramatically. Probably the most common example I see is people who complain their horse doesn't stop so it needs some hefty hardware in its mouth. These are *usually* the people quick to cut some corners so don't really 'school' their horses. If they are using draw/running reins for schooling they are giving the go aid (using their legs) and the stop aid (pulling on the rein - via the draw rein) at the same time but still want the horse to go forward effectively telling the horse that the stop aid no longer exists. Congratulations - you just taught your horse NOT to stop. Its these constant mixed messages we give that confuse our horses and frustrate us.

That is a good book....I have a copy I am trying to find to send to one of our members as well as another by the same man...he wrote one expanding on the sports minded rider and dealing with the show ring....fabulous read. Madvoice....if you do read this thread....this is the book title with a section about the dealing mentally with the issue you have with the one fella. Worth the search if you can find a book...but the one "The Sport Minded Rider" is the actual one you may benefit from.
