is it true that riding horses in temperatures below 15 degrees f could be harzards to their lungs, if so how much work is too much?

First off welcome to the fourm!! Hope you are enjoying it

I think it is hazardious to their lungs because like us i mean when we run it hurts, so i would say nothing more than a walk trot or if they are breathing hard.

i ride in really cole weather here in illinois, but i don't go over a trot. i only trot maybe a few feet then walk. i would take it easy in the colder weather. make sure you bendle up too. have fun but stay safe.

Are you riding outside? Usually indoors if they are properly insulated won't get sooo cold where this is a major concern. However, regardless...make sure to warm up slowly and properly before really working and always cool them down. Keep a cooler on them until they are fully dry and cooled out. NEVER put them up still sweaty as they may catch cold or worse.

I don't ride if it's 20 degree's below because it is hamrful to the horses lungs. If you muts ride then I say walk/trot for about 10-15 minutes is fine or you could turn them out in the indoor arena if no one is riding there.

i don't worry if my horse isn't breathing hard - (Not that I've done TONS of riding in
-15 weather...) but generally walking/light trotting is OK. The way I gauge is if their back is overly warm/sweaty at all when you take the saddle off. If it's even warm then they've been exerting themselves a little which probably isn't good in that kind of weather.

I ride in real realy cold weather. I think alot depends on if the horse is acustumed to it or not. Outdoors usually nothing more than a jog and indoor (not heated) arena I will lope them.

I dont ride when its really cold either, although I have seen some people in the horse club riding in -30, I think at just a walk though. But I never would.

I rode my horses last year outside in -35 for an hour with walking and canter up hills down hills and none of them died from doing it. I am still riding this year with three feet of snow and -22 and they are 22,19, and 7. None are dead. You just have to know your horse and listen to them. They will let you know what they can do and cant do. And warm the bit up with your hands when you ride in this cold of weather.
