Its is a lot different IMO. I used to Own and ride TWHs. I love them, and miss them!! I now own a QH and they are MUCH different. IMO when You ride a TWH it feels like your in a rocking chair. Thay are so smooth. AH i miss them.

Seaside, My friends own Missouri fox trotters and TWH, and let me borrow to trail ride or I could never keep up.... They move out at a very brisk pace...to keep the horses gaiting...I was told to sit back and deep, feet slightly forward, heels down, and I used more leg pressure than I would with my own. You also have to set their head a bit...keep it up, steady light pressure. April

| Senior Member+ | http://www.magnoliafarmstwh.com/imag...heSkyWatch.jpg There is a show pic. They Hunch over and lift there hands to get that head set, Low but and that front a picking up. Obviously this is a padded walking horse. But TWH riders tend to hunch over and raise hands. If your on trails and such it really isnt needed though. lol. Unless you want that headset!! Which I did on trails so when I would look pretty!!! Also when I showed my spotted Saddle horse (just like a TWH) EVery one had there legs more forward. Man I love the gaited horses!!

| Senior Member+ | It depends on the horse's training as to if you need different cues or not for gaiting, etc. My TWH doesnt...I ride her just like I ride my TB. The only thing I do different is to get her into her running-walk I kind of bump the reins a bit while clucking. She knows thats different then me asking her to trot.

deep relaxed seat, feet slightly forward. My horses are gaited and only require light contact with the bit if they break gait and then it is a slight "lift" with the reins to get them slightly tucked to return to the gait. You really don't cue alot different IMO.If I want faster than a walk I squeeze light and get a foxtrot, squeeze longer and get a faster one, squeeze and slide my leg back a little and get a canter/lope, squeeze and put my feet into his belly/underbelly and get a wild rack or something LOL If I'm lazy and just sit their I get a pace LOL Regardless, I have yet to find a more comfortable easy ride
