Riding Accidents

Had a little accident today, and I'm a little sore and bruised up, but okay.

I was jumping Babe, and she was doing so well, but of course I said "Just once more." Don't accidents always happen when you say that? :P Anyways, last jump, (crossrail with a barrel to hold it on one side, the other side through the boards of the fence) and Babe said "Nuhuhn, don't wanna." So she tried to duck out and I pulled her back in, but not fast enough, so in a desperate attempt she tried to jump the barrel length-wise, and failed. She fell, and I went flying into the fence about ten feet away (the jump was just before a turn). I held onto the reins and came to the end so hard that I pulled the bridle right off of Babe. :P But I think it would have been much worse had I not had the reins, because the bridle stopped me from hitting the fence full force. Hehe, and the only thing going through my head was "Oh no, Babe!" After impact I was just like, "Dang, that hurt.. where's Babe?!"

When I got up, I was extremely dizzy, couldn't breath, and could see nothing but spots. So, stumbled over to Babe, and leaned against her for a bit. Then I took her into the barn and somehow managed to get to the house, where i collapsed in a chair for a bit. When I was feeling better I went back to the barn and made sure Babe was okay. She was fine, no soreness at all, so I got back on, and we tried the jump again. She jumped it, though with slight hesitation, but I was happy. I was worried that we'd both be afraid to jump if we didn't go do it right away.

All in all it worked out okay. I have a pretty bad bruise on my back, a scratched up arm where i hooked it on the fence, and a bruised knee, but what matters is that Babe is okay.

I just thought I would share my pain with you guys, and wondered if you had any near-disaster accidents?

oh wow!!! That sounds really scary, are you sure you are alright? Good for you for trying again though!

hmmm... accidents myself. Well, the last bucking incident with Buddy was quite intense. To make it short, he was bucking, I tried to pull him around, he turned really quickly (still bucking) right in front of a fence and I lost my balance and got thrown into the fence right there, landing flat on my back. I kind of had the wind knocked out of me, and my back hurt SOOO bad at first, and I couldn't move for a few minutes.

Oh my goodness. I am glad you both are ok. I absolutely hate falling off. I mean, not only does it hurt, but I always worry myself sick about the horse, and if they are ok.
I wish that you had someone with you. Atleast then they could have made sure you were ok first! You must be crazy getting up so quick after that fall!
Next time please have someone with you- just in case anything happens. (I know, I am a worry wort)
Hope that bruise gets better. Get some rest, and dont be too busy!

Oh my! I'm glad you are both ok other than some bruises and s*****....

Yeah, I recently had a nasty fall that is keeping me from riding for 6 weeks (down to 4 weeks now).

I went to look at a horse for sale and after I was done riding him I wasn't impressed so I had the owner bring me out another horse to check out and she was gorgeous. Lovely mover! Well, the owner rode her for me and then I rode her, did flat work, and then decided to jump her using these cavallites or w/e that the owner had set up for me. Well, I took her over the jump 2 times and she did fine and then I decided to do it one more time just for the heck of it and that is when it happened. I pointed her toward the jump. I was lined up and everything and then I cued her to jump and she slightly hit the poll but ti didn't move cause they set it up wrong and she tripped and I flew off the left side and rolled on the ground and smacked my head and my back on the ground. I couldn't breath properly for like 3 minutes. First thing I thought when I landed was "OMG, I paralyzed!". I was in the hospital for 4 days and ended up having a broken bone in my upper spine. I now have to wear a brace until it is healed.

Once I can ride again I plan on hopping back on and searching for a horse again. I already have 2 lined up!

I really should sue cause I did nothing wrong with giving the horse aids. The set the pole up so it wouldn't fall if it was hit and that makes it their fault. My dad says we're not going to sue but I think we should. I mean, if I fell forward instead of side ways I would of been trampled by the horse and most likely would of died.
