Rhino vac for pregnant mares

Refresh my memory on rhino for pregnant mares. Is it at the 5, 7, and 9th month of pregnancy?

Also, I am having a hard time finding a wormer that does not contain a botacide. Have looked at 3 different horsey stores. I need just a zimectrin wormer, NOT for bots. I guess I will have to order one. Giving a botcide is dangerous for pregnant mares? They all say on the package that botacide is safe for pregnant mares. My vet says not. Comments?

All Ivermectins are a botacide, it's just something they cover, so in short, you're not going to find Zimectrin that doesn't cover bots because all it is is Ivermectin. I have no clue if it's safe for pregnant mares or not. I've never heard that it's not. In fact, everyone I know worms their mares (pregnant) with Ivermectin and Safeguard.

Did he say why he thought it was dangerous? What studies had been done? Or anything like that? I'm really curious, as I said, it's common place to do around here, and I've never heard any different. They're wormed with an ivermectin and a safeguard type product. I can't imagine how or why ivermectin would be dangerous, not to mention the worm load she's going to have at the end of a year of not being wormed with it!

Dawn,

It was my mistake. I remembered the vet saying something about NOT using something and I thought it was bots. That was about 7 months ago. What a memory I have. It was tape worm NOT botacide that we were to avoid. My sister and I just drove to the vets office and asked in person. We also asked about the rhino shot. It is at 5, 7, and 9 months. We got the shots and the wormer. Phew!! If you only knew me in person. I am sometimes a little scatter brained. I remember thinking in the Spring that Fall is a long time away and I would worry about it then. A little bit of Scarlet O'Hara shinning through. LOL

Here's another hair brained idea that my sister and I had. We are going to knit those fancy scarves with the wild yarn for Christman presents. Sister said they would only take one hour to do. YEA RIGHT!!! I just spent 45 minutes casting on and knitting one row. They might be done X-mas 2007! We are dangerous together. I have 7 scarves to knit. The yarn is really slippery and hard to work with. If you don't see me for a while, I will be in my knitting ****eon.

omg, that's hilarious. I almost asked you if you were sure it wasn't tapeworms as he's right on that one. But I didn't, lol. So everything should be fine.

And knitting, there's a reason I don't do it. You work like 10 hours to get 5 square inches done.
