Rescuing a Horse

I probably won't be getting a horse for quite a while, but when i do, i want to rescue a horse. I would prefer actually taking a horse in need rather than adopting one from a rescue, where it is going to be cared for until adopted.

How would i go about finding a horse in need of rescue? I was thinking i would go to the auction that we have every year, i'm sure there would be something there. But are there any other ways?

I would check with the Humane society, they may be in need of temporary homes for horses they take in. In any case it is a starting point.

Many auctions will have horses in need of homes.
