Sadly, we'll be needing a lot more of these organizations with the economy the way it is.

I volunteer at Serenity Equine Rescue and Rehabilitation, it was founded by a lady named Patricia who has always taken in a rescue here and there but dedicated her life to her rescue last year- formalizing and getting nonprofit status.

She is amazing at healing horses and really focuses on evaluating, getting them healthy and then rehoming- we've taken in everything from abused donkeys to an amazing TB gelding who was once over $40,000 and cast aside when he was lame. We've got an OTTB who raced at Churchill Downs and a sweet little pony who was dumped alongside a local freeway, left to get killed by a car because someone was tired of him... we even have a bigger pony who is a hurricane Katrina rescue.

I just love the way this rescue is run, which is why I agreed to be part of it, so I had to share There are amazing volunteers doing lots of work with the grounds and the barn, we're super lucky.

I found this site and love this page specifically, through make a wish foundation 5 year old Mycah gets to meet Spirit, from the Disney film. He is currently residing at Return to Freedom and here is the link to the PDF article page.

I have been to and adopted an appaloosa gelding from Minnesota Hooved Animal Rescue, Drew is the kindest and most wonderful person I have ever met, if anyone has paved thier way to heaven it is she. This rescue takes in all kinds of horses and places them in forever homes. My guy Cecil is the love of my life and I wouldnt trade him for the world. www.mnhoovedanimalrescue.org

This is the rescue where I got my mare. The website isn't updated very much--"horses are more important then the internet". Michelle/Shane take in most any animal--if they don't have room, they call their list of foster homes, and find a place. She also helps people who get into bad boarding situations, and offers 60 day fostering at her barn for a very little fee, that way they aren't losing their horse.....Thumbs up!!!
