| Senior Member+ | Sad story. 2 time offender of neglect. Maybe some of you Minnesotians know of this place in Isanti County. http://www.kare11.com/news/news_arti...storyid=266498 If you go to the link, you can watch a video Police seize neglected animals from Isanti farm ![]() Police seized eight horses and a donkey Tuesday from an Isanti County farm after animal activists led them to the malnourished, neglected and infected animals. The animals were on a farm near Stanchfield, and have now been moved to the University of Minnesota's Large Animal Hospital for treatment. The horse stalls are full at the University of Minnesota's veterinary clinic. "What we did initially was to evaluate them to determine what their weights were, we weighed them all," U of M's Dr. Stephanie Valberg said. One purebred Arabian is supposed to look like royalty, but it's just a shadow of itself, weighing 200 pounds less than it should. "They don't have a lot of muscle left on them and big bellies, so we're testing them for parasites and we'll be treating them for that," Dr. Valberg said. The doctor says to see a horse emaciated is not as unusual as it may seem. But, she says, part of the problem may be the state's recent ban on slaughtering. "It was well intentioned I think to try and help horses, but I think one of the consequences is people that don't want to have anything to do with horses, that can't feed them, this is the downside of that legislation." This is the second time horses have been seized from this particular owner. Back in August 15 horses were taken from a property in Rush City. The owner faces animal cruelty charges in that seizure. The horses face an uphill battle, but doctors are hopeful. "I would say in the next six months or so they should be back to health if they've got good a feeding program and de-worming program and are well taken care of." They'll be in the hands of the University's doctors for the next ten days. By Jeffrey DeMars, KARE 11 News. (Copyright 2007 by KARE. All Rights Reserved.)

| Senior Member+ | Wow, thats sad. I think its good that they mentioned the ban on slaughter, it is a primary reason for the over flow of horses now. |

| Senior Member+ | I am not saying this is right or wrong. I am going to sit on the fence on this one til I see more. In the video, I got to see the same horse over and over. What did the other 7 look like? Anyone have a link to those pictures?

![]() | People who strave their horses are gonna do it slaughter or not. Also horses dont get in that condition over night, its takes time to become that emaciated. For that vet to say its due to the ban on slaughter is bull, Cause if thats the case why did those same owners strave horses before this last time? I will tell you why, its cause they did not have to pay a consequence for their actions, its pretty cut and dry, laws are animal neglect and abuse are not upheld. Look at auctions people bring sick, injured animals to a auction, is there not always a vet on sight? well how can a vet turn his/her back on the very animals they take a oath to help and not bring charges against anyone that brings abused animals to an auction. This makes me sick that people get away with doing harm and not feeling bad about it at all. I have absulutly no use for anyone like that, I include VETS in that cause there are some that are not VETS for the right reasons.JMHO. |

Yeah I can see that with the same horse shown over and over. News stations tend to do that at times, show the same clip over and over. I am going to look into it and see if anything else has come out of it.

| Senior Member+ | Here are some more articles. With more in depth info. The Mn Hooved Animal Resuce and the U of M are involved Investigators rescue eight horses and a donkey from Isanti County farm The Arabians and the donkey seized Tuesday, which had ribs protruding through their skin, are recovering at the University of Minnesota veterinary hospital. The 15 horses seized earlier are being cared for by the Minnesota Hooved Animal Rescue Foundation. Hanson said the woman faces neglect charges for not giving the animals adequate food, water and shelter. Such animal-neglect cases come monthly but always seem to worsen in the winter, he said. Hanson learned of the animals' condition last August from a horse buyer who told investigators that the woman kept horses on her parents' property in Rush City in Chisago County. Animal investigators went there in August, where they spotted three horse and a donkey in "rough shape," he said A Wednesday hearing was scheduled to determine if she should get the animals back.
