Cool Report from the Colorado Horse Park!! *w/ pics!*

edit: Got videos uploaded! Woohoo! Scroll down to post 15 to take a look.

First off, I had a GREAT time!! This was my first recognized event of the year, I've done two schooling events, but this was the first "big guns" one of the year

So, this is how things went, I was competing in Senior Novice. And... excuse the poor

Dressage:
I rode nice and early, 9:00am sharp on friday morning. It was nice and cool, perfect! He warmed up really nice for me, was giving me this GREAT trot, it was big, it was supple, it was very forward, it was relaxed. But then, go figure, as soon as we get into the ring he was like "Ok, I'm done for the day" so to me, it felt like I only had this short, lazy trot going the entire test. Yet, when I watched the video later, it sure looked nice, looked a lot nicer than it felt that's for sure. He was pretty consistent through the whole test, I thought it was pretty good, not brilliant, but good. We got a 34 and were sitting in 7th after dressage.

Cross Country:
Like wow these jumps were small When I first went and walked the course I kept looking over at the training jumps thinking "Man, I want to do THOSE jumps!!"
Anyway, he was SUPER! And he was fresh! He had the rest of the day friday to relax, and ALL day saturday to relax since we didn't ride till 4pm. I took him out early sat morning for a hack and boy was he full of it!
Anyway, he got a few close distances to some of the jumps... need to fix that! I watched the video, and one jump he got close to and rubbed, which was a wine barrel jump, he really had his knees hanging. I was thinking, holy cow... good thing that jump was little, if it was any bigger that would have been a nasty rotational fall! So... yes, I really really need to push him for the long distance XC, we have got to stop this getting close to the jump thing.

Stadium:
He warmed up great for this, was jumping wonderfully! Got in the ring, first jump was real nice, but the second jump I just overrode him and he took an extra half-stride and did what he did above on XC at the wine barrels... hung his knees, except this time, you can't just brush over it and not worry.... he dropped the rail. Otherwise the rest of the course went really well, he got a funky distance and did his gazelle imitation over one oxer, but otherwise it was nice! He did the combo really well and I was pleased about that!

Cuz I like both pics.... gonna do 'em both big, hope ya don't mind

Overall we finished 14th out of a 27 in an EXTREMELLY competitive division. To give you an idea of what we were up against, First place finished with a 28, and 10th was a 36. The top 13 all finished on their dressage score. I was the highest placing rider with penalties.

So yup, that's our weekend! Videos are coming soon!! Thanks for reading

Awesome, congrats! Sounds like you're getting ready to move up. Is that planned for this season?

Not a bad weekend. It is always nice not to place last. He looks nice and calm about it all. His dressage looks good too.

You guys look great.

Wow - look how built up it is around the park - I remember when it was nothing but open land down by the Pinery - I used to board down by there. How fast everywhere is getting built up.

Thanks! Yes, I'm planning on moving him up by august if things work out. I currently don't have a jumping trainer, so once I move I'll hopefully be able to find one and get our act together since I don't feel comfortable at training without some help jump wise. It's really just the coffins and down banks that we lack experience over, otherwise IMO he's ready for training.

Oh yes, I'll take in the middle over last any day Lemme tell ya, this horse is one of the most laid back TBs I've ever known, nothing phases him, but he has enough go under saddle to be a lot of fun.

Oh goodness I know... that whole area, from Parker down to Franktown and over to Castle Rock and back up to Littleton is all getting very built up. It's quite literally exploded over the past decade. And now they are wanting to build a polo club at the horse park, aka more homes! I'm glad I don't live there
