Regumate.....

This is a question for the ladies...

Have any of you ever gotten regumate on you? If so, what effects did it have? I have always been told to to not get it on my skin and I have always taken precaution not to, but today I got showered with it. I am guessing it will have a similar affect on me as it does on the mare, but just a little unsure....

I found a vet med site that said it may cause cramps in women if it gets on the skin -- that's all I've found so far, but I'll keep looking...

I hope you washed it off ASAP. It shouldn't HURT you, but it might mess up your menstrual cycle this month. Also, if you're pregnant, you should check with your doctor.

I did wash it off ASAP, but probably not quick enough...lol. Our vet said the same thing about it messing with my cycle and bad cramping. She said if I was on birth control it may not be as severe, but I am not on birth control. I guess now I am wondering just how severe is severe cramping? As if those few days weren't already bad enough.....lol

I have heard that not only can it cause sever cramps, and upset your cycle, but in large doses, it can cause problems with fertility....
It would be smart to keep alert to your next period, and if it seems really "unusual" then i would contact your doctor.

We almost put Fiona on this to get a normal cycle out of her. My vet recommended my dad(or any male) should handle the stuff while pouring it because it can mess up a woman's repro system.

They make dose-ing guns for it that work very well you may want to try. It just screws on to the bottle so you're virtually never in contact with it. Even wearing several layers of laytex gloves or a pair of dish gloves will help if you're around it on a regular basis.

There's also a shot that can be given to mares that's a natural source of progesterone if you're terribly worried about the side effects.

Yeah, I was using a syringe that screws on for easy dosing and administering and I had on my handy dandy gloves too. But I also had someone who thought they were helping by continuing to pull on the horses head although I requested several times that they not do that. And the end result was them releasing the head about the time I had given up on that happening and my squirt that was supposed to go right down the back of the throat ended up spaying me in the face and all down my neck and the front of my shirt. I was so irked I couldn't even speak.
