Why do you want to teach a horse to rear? Just out of curiosity...

I will not tell people over the forum to teach their horse to rear. I'm really sorry. But it is something that if done, should be done with a trainer in person. Beacause so many things can go wrong. Stormy is learning on the ground, and if he didn't know a whole bunch of respect for me, he could KILL me.

When he rears on the ground, his goal is to reach for my whip, and if I am not careful he could strike and hit me.

It's a dangerous thing.

You have to ask yourself:

Can I handle this if my horse decides to choose this new "trick" as his favorite pass time? What will I do when he does it every ride?

Will I sell this horse? Because if I do a trick rearing horse will scare away a lot of buyers, and if I don't tell them, and they horse picks up the trick, they could get seriously hurt.

However, posting it on an open forum means that it will come up in a search. That means, even if you don't want to, some beginner may read it and try. This would be very bad... very.

I'm geussing you saw the other thread on tricks, but choose carefully waht you teach your horse, because they could choose to show of their new trick when you don't exactly want tthem to and THAT could be bad

I agree that it should be taught under supervision by a skilled trainer. Here is a picture of Gran Culom. When he was younger, he was taught in his native Menorca (island in Spain) to buck/rear on demand for festivals.

WOW!!! And rider appears to be riding bareback! Very nice seat!! But unless your wanting to do "tricks" it's best NOT to "teach" a horse to rear. A rear is an act of defiance. But this is just my opinion.
