Really Thick Mane

Ok, my horse's mane is really thick, it is short, (like maybe 6 inches long)
but thick, i was thinking of shortening it or thinning it or something. what would be a good idea? i do'nt have a thinning blade or anything but i can get one if i need one. what should i do?

Pulling it is definitly the way to go....do you know how to properly pull a mane? If not, let me know, I will post my method for you. Here is a pic of my horse with his mane freshly pulled.
