Read Befor You Clip Horses!

Why do you think horses have wiskers? And why would a horse have then if they dont kneed them?

ANSWER: Horses have ther wiskers to fell things. If you go and touch you horses eye wiskers what will they do? They will close they eye! So what happends if you clip ther eye wiskers? THEY CANT FELL THINGS AND WILL GET THINGS IN THER EYES AND WILL GO BLIND!!!

I only clip a horses nose wiskers FOR A SHOW ONLY!

So think - why do horses have wiskers of they dont kneed them? WELL IF THEY DONT KNEED THEM THE WOULD NOT HAVE THEM!

So think befor you clip your horse.

Horse wiskers are not like cat wiskers.

Yes, they assist on feeling for grass, but their site is much more "broader" range than a cats...and a cat's wiskers are for more than just feel....balance plays a role in their wiskers, where a horse's wiskers don't.

Wiskers on a horse are for grazing...reaching down and if something moves, something under their chin is too close, they don't bonk their chins or get bit by a snake that just got disturbed.

Are they important? To a grazing horse YES. to a stalled horse, NO. Eye lashes are what you are thinking of on the blindness issue. And with or without them, they still find a way to blind themselves....clipped or not. They are all an accident waiting to happen.

you say THINK before you clip....why even bother stating that if you do it yourself. Bit hypocritical ain't it.

MOST people clip for show only anyways. Not many people go around keeping a perfectly clipped horse 24/7. too much time and energy and not enough time riding.

Most people do as you do, Clip for "SHOW" only. Day before usually or the day of....if they are really good at clipping..or procrastinators like my friends are.

When I find a horse with "cat-like" wiskers and that walk sideways when only one side is clipped, Then I'll jump on the band wagon

I don't think I've ever heard of a horse going blind because they didn't have whiskers to blink. *ahem* I think it'll be okay.

I do agree, an old horseman told me once that the hair in their ears was for a reason, and their wiskers were to help them judge distance, as close to their noses, they cannot see ....like their wiskers let then know when they are close to an object like food, water, and other objects...Cathy
