Many horses have an allergy to soy.

Soy is in TC products.

Something to think about

Blah. I didn't know that.

Is there any testing that be done to see if the horse is allergic to soy? Besides just taking her off the RB?

We don't have many other feeds around here, I might see what the Feed Store about 15 miles from me has, I think it's Buckeye there.

I was just going to suggest comparing ingredients between this feed and the previous. Assuming your previous feed had a fixed ingredient list. It might help you to pinpoint if there was a dietary related issue.

If the other store does carry Buckeye, that might be a viable option for you as well.

This is what she got, off and on [she was pulled off when I had to go back to NC in Feb], from Jan to Feb:

Rice Bran [regular rice bran, non fortified? It's just a brown bag]
Oatmo [oat hay and molasses]
Beet Pulp when she decided to eat it
and BOSS

That was it.

The oatmo doesn't have anything else added in?

In that case, you could likely be dealing with a sensitivity issue. Especially if you don't know how she's reacted on other feeds she might have had in the past. It would be worth playing around to find out.

Soy is probably the most likely culprit here. Though, as someone else mentioned, it could also be rabon. I actually thought that no equine products contained that any more. Guess I was wrong!

I wonder what it is. She just started this pulling back thing, I don't know what is causing it. I might just put a rope halter on her and let her try that on, because now she knows she can get away by breaking leads and halters.

A couple of things, she has probably learned the pulling back thing some time ago, as it DOES seem to be fairly common for many Arabians and TB's to try... They are smart, don't forget, and remember that it WORKED before as they almost always end up getting 'free' because they break halters or leads or ties, so I'd switch to tying her ONLY in a rope halter and preferably with a rope attached that does NOT have a snap that can be busted. That seems to put a screeching halt that nonsense in my experience.

Secondly, she may be coming into her first FULL season since it's April and may be more hormonal then she's been since you said she's been a bit more 'wired' for the past week.

Third, I personally do not feel ANY of the fly control feed throughs are a good idea as you ARE putting poisen daily into your horse, just something to think about.

Lastly, she could indeed have a food sensitivity issue. Can you get LMF in your area? They're sold in CA, just don't know if you have access to it, If so, you might try their Gentle Balance which has ZERO grain products in it and when I blended it with their Gold formula (which does have grains) I have had great results with Dancer on keeping up good weight and not getting to hot. THE RB route was not enough extra cals for Dancer she drastically lost weight even with RB and alfalfa pellets added in so when I swapped my program for her to this, I got a huge improvement.

Also I believe TC has a non-grain formulation as well... TC is JUST now entering our market here in the NW so I don't personally have feeding experience with them but have heard many good things.

If she has been feeling blah from lack of nutrients and food, she could just be feeling really really good now.

Like people who eat not enough or unhealthy stuff, we drag our feet and dont have that extra hip in our hop. But as soon they start eating well, their energy goes up.

Maybe this is the case with Kandee?

I believe (though I could be wrong) that LMF also has soy in it.

The TC 12% is no grain, and the soy being the only 'likely' allergen present in it. Of course not the only possible one.

I do not believe the Gentle Balance has Soy in it, many of their other products do have soy, but I do not believe the Gentle Balance does but I'm at work so don't have my tag handy to be 100% certain.
