ration balancers.

I know theres been many threads started about ration balancers! But im really wanting to see how many of you feed RB'S?

I am for sure wanting to start my boys on completly different diets (I came to that conclusion at the kentucky rolex..when all the differnt feed companys were there) !..some of you already know my past history of my horses and know what my horses can and can't have.

But, what kind of Ration balancer has been most helpful to you? Im really wanting to hear what everyones diets are like.!

what would some of you recomend for a TB that needs to be on a high calorie diet and thats getting worked alomost everyother day for 1-2 hours?

He's on a complete sweetfeed right now..but i want him off!!
but he still needs something..that can give him the same amount of calories

I just want him on something healthier! but yet, wont make him loose weight.

I've used a ration balancer for a couple of years now. (I honestly don't remember exactly when I started.)

As far as what will work for you, what brands do you have available to you?

What exactly is he on right now? (There's technically no such thing as a 'complete sweet feed'. Though there are plenty of complete feeds that are high grain and comparable to a sweet feed in that aspect.) How much does he get of it a day? What kind of hay/pasture?

oooooo, i ment like a complete feed..and its in textured form.
He's on that compete 10/10 i told you about a long time ago. And honestly it did very well for him.

TB's diet as of right now :

1 scoop (3quart) twicedaily. He was on 2 scoops twice daily up-until maybe 3 days ago. I cut him back because the grass is grown like crazy!
And hes at a very nice weight and i didnt want him getting to much.

He comes in everynight and is getting about 3-4 flakes of orchard and alfalfa mix. Its only about 20 % alfalfa.
I also have straight timothy too. Just havent used any yet.

He has a great size pasture to run around in and eat haha. And hes out for atleast 10-12 hours aday.

As well as the finishline supplement..paprika..and im going to use the rice bran oil

twh diet as of right now:

1/2 scoop of re-leve http://www.re-leve.com/
twice daily.

As well as paprika, rice bran oil, and a hoof supplement that i get from my vet.

I do understand that im not feeding the correct amounts...thats another reason to be changing the diets!

As far as brands available to me... i cant get just about anything.

just let me know a brand and i will check!

Check Trple Crown, Buckeye, Progressive, Kent and Purina

they all offer ration balancers

I have been on one for a year now and can't say enough good things about what I am seeing with my horses

I started on Buckeye's Gro N Win but the price kept climbing and my dealer was talking abotu no longer handling it so I changed to Kent's and honestly I am liking the Kent even more then the Buckeye

Ive used TC 30% for 5-6 years now . Cant beat it. Even when my bratty neighborrhood kids thought it would be fun to "feed the horses" without permission and filled up everyones buckets to the TOP, no one got sick or lamaninic thankfully! I lucked out. Talk about turing into mad medusa, I dont think they will be back on the property anytime soon.

Also got POd becuse its not cheap feed and they used up about a weeks worth of feed in one afternoon *sigh*

Having great success with Progressive RB for grass hay & envision. Started off with 2lbs 2x daily of each. Along with a COB mix I make myself. Also, about 5 flakes of quality hay per day, 1 of those flakes is alfalfa. He is putting weight on nicely. Not hay belly fat, but healthy weight with muscle obvious muscle mass coming in. I am getting a lot of compliments on his coat and growth. He was really thin and lost a lot of muscle while in training.

4 lbs a day of Progressive ration balancer? Is that the amount that your horse falls into weight/age/activity wise? Not sure of their amounts off the top of my head, but it sounds quite high.
