The twh could easily switch onto a ration balancer. The tb will probably do well with a little bit of fat supplementation added in. | |

| Senior Member | I dont see the actual link to it but heres all the info about it! Manufactured with optimum levels of soluble fibers, oils and the highest quality grains, Compete 10/10 HE provides a 20% boost in energy over conventional sweet feeds. Soluble fiber and oils repeatedly provide for long lasting energy release and controlled performance in the equine athlete. Compete 10/10 HE is a highly palatable product ideal for any discipline requiring a feed with high levels of energy but reduced protein content. Compete 10/10 HE is designed for the trainer requiring a calorie dense feed that is "non-heating" nor results in a horse that is difficult to handle or mentally too "high". Nutritional Facts : Protein: 10% Digestible Energy: 1500 kcal/lb Fat: 10% Fiber: 10% Calcium: 0.7% Phosphorus: 0.55% Zinc: 120 ppm Copper: 40 ppm Vitamin: A 5,500 IU/lb. Vitamin D: 650 IU/lb. Vitamin E: 100 IU/lb. Magnesium: 0.25% Selenium: 0.3 ppm Feeding instructions : Compete 10/10 HE is a fully fortified textured sweet feed. It is not necessary to add additional protein, vitamin or mineral supplements if this feed is fed as directed. Feed at the rate of 6-18 pounds per day depending on the intensity of the work, size and body condition of the horse. Always provide a clean, fresh source of water as well as high quality hay. And I get this feed from hallway feed here in kentucky..heres the link to their web site. http://www.hallwayfeeds.com/ you can also find the feed on that site.

| Senior Member+ | Okay, my first reaction here would be to use Triple Crown Senior (6-7 lbs/day) for the tb. And Triple Crown 30% for the twh (1 lb/day assuming no work 1.5 lbs if light work). That, to me, is the simplest, healthiest option. You could also use the TC 30% for the tb and add in forage and fat sources and get the same result. |

| Senior Member+ | For instance, you could probably use 1.5-2 lbs of TC 30%, 4 lbs of alfalfa pellets or beet pulp, and 1 lb of BOSS or 2 lbs of rice bran to get roughly the same effect as 6 lbs of TC Senior. You could use rice bran oil as a fat source, but you would have to do so in the amount of 1 1/2 cups/day. And I personally have never had nearly as good of results with oil supplementation as whole food supplementation (and others have experienced that as well). Personally, I'd just go with the TC Senior. It doesn't have anything bad in it, the other mixture wouldn't have anything particularly beneficial in it. And it would be simpler and overall perhaps slightly better balanced. |
