TC12 is for alfalfa diets and TC30 is for grass diets

I'm here! Dynamite (the vit/min supplement is called Dynamite) and the Dynamite plus (varies in the vit/min content) are not really ration balancers. They provide no significant protein, which most (all?) ration balancers provide. They DO have a 30% protein supplement, but it's mainly protein, and not a vit/min product.

If you are interested in getting more Dynamite, let me know - I can have it sent to you anywhere It's not sold in stores, only through distributors.

That's nice to know (about you being able to send it). When I'm ready to make that switch, I'll definitely come to you first!

How well would it work with my current feeding schedule?

AM
2.5 lbs Safechoice
appr 1lb shredded beet pulp
2 cups BOSS with minimal oats (weaning out the oats)
ACV
1flake of COMPRESSED alfalfa hay (about 5-10 lbs?)
free choice bermuda/bahia and bahia pasture
PM
same as above, however I add about 2.5 tablespoons of flax seed.
I am considered adding rice bran in place of the oats...

I have been reading about the ration balancers. While reading I compared the ingredients on the TC12 and Dynamite and they are quite comparable. Could I feasible reduce the amount of Safechoice and add the dynamite? Kinda like how the ration balancer works. I guess I'm just scared to take them off the Safechoice, basically BECAUSE of the reduction in bucket time.....

Ideally you wouldn't feed the D vites with a non-D fortified grain product so you don't risk OD'ing on vitamins and minerals. If it was just a couple of pounds, it would be ok, but 5lb might be pushing it. Would you consider dropping the SC and replacing it with more beet pulp and some more BOSS?

What do you mean by "reduction in bucket time"?

They seem so happy when they have their heads plunged into a bucket at feeding time. It seems like reducing the "amount" of feed would also reduce the amount of "bucket time" Besides, I really enjoy watching them eat!

I think I may just go ahead and order TC12 and give it a try for a month and see how it goes. Sometimes change is very scary. Especially when what you are already doing is working really good. But If changing to a ration balancer would enhance them further and be cheaper on the old pocketbook in the long run, I would be interested in changing.

I'd be afraid that if I dropped the SC I would be deficient in vit/min. If I add the Dyn- at what rate would I feed it? I was only adding 1 ounce DAILY (split between 2 feedings) of the Dyn before.

1oz for most adult horses is all you need. Really

Beet pulp is pretty light (at least the shredded is), it's about 1/2 the weight by volume as alfalfa pellets (and most pelleted things are similar in weight). So, replacing 2lb of SC with 2lb of bp might double the volume.

I know this is an old subject. I have been given a CD that covers common feeding Boo Boo's. Now, I'm absolutely confused again. I have not changed their diet much. Because of the information on the CD, I have however, stopped giving them so much alfalfa because they were showing signs of becoming acidic (according to the information that points to acid horses due to over excessive protein without proper breakdown of the amino acids).

The more I have researched this, I find that I really, really want to change to a RB of some type.

JB- Can I feesible change to the dynamite vit, keep the BOSS, flaxseed, ACV, beetpulp? But, they now only get about 1-2 lbs of alfalfa Daily. How would I supplement to achieve the 12% protein that is required?

I have not been able to find breakdown of the RB products that are listed. I'm looking for a RB that utilizes chelated minerals....does anyone have personal knowledge about which of these RB are developed using chelated minerals???

I feed boss, flax, beet pulp, and the Dynamite vit/min supplement

Whether you need to supplement protein depends on the overall diet, not just the 1-2lb of alfalfa. This means - what's the protein content of your grass?
