hi i don't know if any of you watch pat perellie
but he is awesome! natural horsemanship is about speaking the equine language and it is not about doing things natural. the lady who started this forum oviously doesn't watch any of the trainer like pat perelli or **** shrake. these guys are teaching resistance free traing. it has nothing to do with natural anythung. it's about becoming one with the horse and having a good relationship with your horse.i am trianing my 2 year old with resistance free training or natural hormanship and he would do anything for me. he is awesome. and if you people took the time to watch a pat perelli show then you would realize that is the best way to train a horse. violence is not the answer. kicking your horse in the gut is not the answer. take the time to get to know your horse and not expect it to love you back if you don't love it too

I've just got a question, not going to state which side of this argument I'm on cause for one, I'm not sure I know.

If a horse doesn't view our physicality as that of another horse, why would we assume that he interprets our body language the same as another horse?

cutter....My MAIN point for this whole rant was more for the people who take the words "NATURAL HORSEMANSHIP" too literally and do NOTHING to their horse to correct the Biting and other dangerous Vices.

YES I do know about pat parelli and utilize his techniques on many horses. But there are those horses that are more domineering or had a bad start as a youngin and need a little more than Pat Parelli techniques to keep my head on my body.

My biggest issue is those people who use "Natural Horsemanship" as an excuse not to teach their horses basic mannors and say..OH he's just playing...as my arm is dripping blood. THAT is my biggest point to the rant. I was very irritated at the time I wrote the post..that's why the warning at the beginning.

I'm not downing "natural horsemanship" it's GREAT. I have had several success stories with it and failures with it. That's why I utilize many different people and not just Pat Parelli. John Lyons, Clint Anderson, also Excellent Trainers and techniques. Not all horses will respond to the same training methods. John Lyons can work with ANY animal god put on this earth....dont bring him a mule...he'll kick you out of his pen. God didn't make mules!!

BUT, mules can respond to other techniques. Same with different horses depending on their background. I deal with a lot of horses that have already been ruined by nasty trainers. So I have to adjust to them cause even Pat Parelli can't save them all.

Just don't use the excuse of "natural horsemanship" for your horse not having mannors and being mean. It does bring those above words down and make people not want to use those proper techniques.

OK I have no clue who came up with the word for natural horsemanship but its not used correctly in all ways but in some. None of my horses walk all over me they dont get treats (Dorrance method) they arent cinchy they dont buck they listen at all gaits etc. we ask them to listen if not then yes we say LISTEN and tell them we just ask kind first which i find is smart because if you went up to your horse and he nipped you and you smacked him ouch hes going to defend himself next time and nip harder. So if you yell No firmly and he nips you again pop him on the nose and the next time he'll try to nip you and yell firmly NO again and he'll rememeber that last time he didnt listen to your no he got smacked. horse arent as dumb as you think. Now im not saying my horse is perfect and he'll test me to see if im awake but i give him a chance first and he's good.
