I have two that rack, but they arent actual racking horses. lol. They are Missouri Fox Trotters. Please, dont ask how I got two MFT in a barn full of Arabs, Paints and QH. Then again, lol, dont ask why we breed Arabs and Paint/QH. I dont know much about the gaited horses. Just now discovering them. What about you? Whats the details on your horses? Do you know how to train them to get the right gait? This confuses me to no end. Jessie

I know a little from having to listen about my mom's boyfriend's new colt and how he will rack a hole in the ground and that boy will crank. We don't train ours, well, I guess we don't. I wouldn't know how to. That is the big thing around here and moist will gait naturally. Most will ride flatshod, but some (like me) have to have a little bit of weight on their hosses' feet before they will actually move. I have a TWH/ Morgan cross. Thats my only one..actually thats enough for the moment..

Oh where to start.....
Have the following:
chestnut sabino mare 14.3h 14 yrs old reg: racking
chest/white tob mare 17.2 4 yrs old reg: racking
blk/white tob geld 15.1 7 yrs old reg: twh, racking
blk/white tob stal 15.1 7 yrs old reg: twh, racking
blk mare 15.2 8yrs old reg: twh (but she racks)

These are the horses I have that will rack. both the boys, and the black mare will walk on the low end then pick up and rack on. the stallion gears up to a true rack with one foot on the ground at a time and can cruise! He is by far my fastest and could probably do what they call speed racking. Even though I have twh, I prefer to ride the rack most of the time. I like to trail and they seem to be less trippy and more sure footed. I like thier body style as well. Walk, rack, Run-walk, etc.. are all gaits. It is important to remember in gaited horses that not all walking horses walk, not all racking horses rack, and not all fox trotters fox trot

YWell said sunsetacres, even a colt out of the best racking mares and stallions sometimes won't gait. Speed racking- where do I start with speed racking, my mom's boyfriend (Carroll) is all about speed racking. Have you ever heard of Rowdy Rawhide? He is the son of Ezd's Falcon Rowdy, who was the speed racking world champ long ago, I think. Anywho, Carroll rides with that bunch. I will tell you one thing, those guys are like a bunch of 5th grade girls. Someone has a good horse and they all get jealous, even though most of them have pretty decent ones themselves.

HAHAHAHAHA Yeah, we have a few of those here too!! 5th grade girls! apt description! hehehe
Yes , I have heard of the rowdy lineage, I understand that they have quite the reputation for speed racking. Although I like a good rack , I am not truely into the speed rack, but I do think it's way cool!
My way of looking at my horses is something like owning a Jaguar (car). The Jaguar is sleek, quiet, pretty and smooth. You do not have anything to prove, and don't have to barrel down the freeway because you KNOW that if you needed the speed, it's THERE.!
I am somewhat unusual arround here. everyone that has a walker or similar gaited breed , tears down the trail . They figure that because they have a gaited horse they have to go really fast!!! all the time. These are typically first time owners, that eventually ruin their horses gait , and then wonder were there gaited horse went! hehe
We like to mosey (as much as a gaited horse moseys) down the trail with the occasional burst of speed. This leaves us somewhat undesirable to ride with : )

I have the following:
1 black/white reg. TWH, 16.1hh, 7 y.o.
1 black/white reg. TWH, 15.2hh, 8 y.o.
1 buckskin grade, gaited, 15.2hh, 9 y.o. (est.)

We take the 2 b/w every where we go. The buckskin guards the farm while we're gone. Honestly, I'm much too old to be bouncing around in a saddle. I do love to "cruse" down the trails. Not wide open, but moving along. Someone has a siggy on here talking about the sweetest wind blows through a horse's ears.... it just don't get any better than that.
