| Senior Member+ | Racism defined...
I read this book, and towards the end the murderer was randomly talking to distract/discourage the protagonist. So at one point he said: "I'm not prejudiced against black people. They should have equal rights and everything. I just don't like the way they aren't white." Does that not sum of racism perfectly? It's so contradictory, it doesn't make sense. Nor does racism, to my mind. I just thought that quote was perfect for describing racism, and felt compelled to share.

| Racisms or prejudices against a color, sex, religion or age is one of the worlds worst faults. It makes you wonder if the person making such slurs have such a poor life that they cannot find anything good or if they are so jealous that they feel demeaning others makes them suddenly bigger and better. This insidious way of thinking creeps down to the very roots of our way of thinking, and within families it propagates from one generation to another. They say knowledge is what will cure it but I have found that knowledge only makes the biases more clever and cloaked in veiled innuendoes. | |
