How do I measure my horse for the proper fitting boot?

What type of boots are you looking for? Usually they are based on general weight, height or actual measurements. It depends on the type boots you want

Splint boots, and bell boots I think.

What kind of boots do you find to be a neccessity?

None are absolutely necessary IMO

Unless your horse has a tendancy to knock themselves, over reach etc or you are going to be doing doing something with a large chance of injury (ie barrel racing or cross country) you likely don't need them. If your are just doing flat work on a realtively balanced horse I wouldn't bother with the,

But if you do want them splint and bell boots are usually measured in small, medium and large.

Most horse take mediums, larger horses and smaller horses would need a size up/down. For rear boots you usually have to go up one size
