[quote=ahorseofcourse]OK, so here are some more questions I would like to ask:

1. How high on the withers should the saddle pad go?

Saddle pad should "evenly" be around the saddle. Some withers require a cut back for proper fitting.

2. how do you not look stupid when your at a fast speed and then turn suddenly?

easy, stay WITH the horse, lean properly (to the inside of the turn). Basically, keep your upper body "perpendicular" to the ground, the hips down move with the horse.....that is the best way I can explain it. OH, and don't fall off.....that makes for some "laughs"...

3. how do you get the horse to be on the right lead?

ask for it properly. Set them up properly. It is only "Natural" to enter the correct lead. If you watch a horse at liberty, 9 times out of 10, they are on the correct lead. Only us unbalancing them, balance issues, etc...cause them NOT to enter the leads when asked.

4. what do you look for in a boarding place?

Oh wow....depends all on exactly what you want and need.

5. how can you tell when the horse your riding is lame ( limping or somthing)

something "feels" funny. Get off, trot the horse....the trot is the ultimate gait to see lameness.

6. at what speed should you start to lean forward?

NONE. You should be "balanced" in all gaits. However, the "speed run" where you want the fastest, you kind of...well, circle your body. Keep the balance in the same spot, but you drop your body down for "wind resistance" sort of idea...

7. how come the horses froth when your riding them?

they are chewing the bit. Horses cannot salavate without chewing.

8. how tight should your cinch be?

as tight as necessary to keep the saddle from moving around.

And for fun tell me one horse fact

They do not have gallbladders

[quote=ahorseofcourse]OK, so here are some more questions I would like to ask:

1. How high on the withers should the saddle pad go? the saddle pad should be just oevr the withers, and the saddle should sit right in between it hard to explain you should be able to see where it look right specaily on a western saddle, if it doesnt look right it well look like the saddle is pointing downwards

2. how do you not look stupid when your at a fast speed and then turn suddenly? keep your heels down and you body in the 3 point possion(i think that what it called) if you keep your heels down it should help you sit nicer and not look so sloppy, sometimes it hard, i sometimes have to grab the horse with one hand to keep my balance if we are tunning fast.

3. how do you get the horse to be on the right lead? Ither stop and go try cantering again, or push them harder around the corner and some horses get the point of swihign there leads, i donno not many do unless they are trained to do that.. just stop and go till they are on the right lead.

4. what do you look for in a boarding place? Nice people, clean, not so dusty, happy friendly place, other horses, clean(semi clean) stalls
fresh water supply, ect. things like that

5. how can you tell when the horse your riding is lame ( limping or somthing)It looks like people when we limp you can see it if you lunge them, or get someone to trot him by you and you can tell, it looks noticable, also they well favor the leg that is sore(or side)

6. at what speed should you start to lean forward? You dont need to lean forward ever, unless you are galloping i would think, or jumping, because they makes them go faster, i guess if your on a trail and you are galloping i usallly lean forward to get more speed. not sure about others

7. how come the horses froth when your riding them? forth is at the mouth i think LOL, if so it because you are working them and i herd it was a good thing, dont think it matter much tho.

8. how tight should your cinch be? it should be tight, so the saddle dont slip, watch out cuzz horses bloate(sp) there belly's up so you can't do it tight then when you go to get on it slids under there belly, so make it as tight as possiable at first then go do something else then go back to it when they dont except it.

If you ever need to no anything more just pm or ask.... also if i am worng on any of theses someone please correct me

1. How high on the withers should the saddle pad go?

Depends on the horse, how high/what shape his withers are, etc.

2. how do you not look stupid when your at a fast speed and then turn suddenly?

Your horse needs to be balanced through the turn, and you need to be balanced over your horse.

3. how do you get the horse to be on the right lead?

The horse needs to be strong enough and supple enough to pick it up, then you ask correctly. It helps when you're learning to ask on a curve (but not a tight corner)

4. what do you look for in a boarding place?

What services they provide (feed, turnout, blanketing, supplements, etc), what facilities/amenities they have (arenas, jumps, access to trails, trailer parking, tack rooms, stalls, washracks), quality of facilities (well maintained, neat, safe--no loose boards, nails, clutter), quality of care (what feed, hay, continuous access to fresh, clean water, who handles horses and how), health of other horses (this is where liars are discovered!), price, location, etc.

5. how can you tell when the horse your riding is lame ( limping or somthing)

Some lamenesses are obvious--the horse is clearly not moving right. Sometimes you can see it more than feel it, while other times you can feel it but not see it. When in doubt, don't ride. Trot the horse straight toward you, straight away from you, perpendicular to you, and on a circle in both directions. You are checking for evenness of hips/shoulders, even length of stride, head bobbing, any sign that a horse is picking up a leg quickly or avoiding putting one down, hitches in the joints, etc. If you aren't experienced enough to see it, get help. Some horses won't even be "lame" but will change their behavior suddenly, which is a clear indicator something is wrong (for example, when my mare starts kicking out her right hind, I know it's time to call the chiropractor, even though she is "sound" for all intents and purposes). The key is to know the individual horse as well as horses in general.

6. at what speed should you start to lean forward?

Depends on what you're doing! There is no "speed" at which you lean forward, and actually, you generally don't "lean" forward. In cross country, for example, you go up into a two point--your shoulders go forward, but you're actually kind of standing up (your bum is out of the saddle). Your center of gravity is what changes, and leaning implies that you are top-heavy. But it will come naturally--the opposite is usually the problem (people too far forward)

7. how come the horses froth when your riding them?

They are chewing the bit and working it through their mouths. Correct acceptance of the bit produces a white foam in most horses (certain issues or equipment such as rubber bits) can discourage this, but if you see it, it's a good sign.

8. how tight should your cinch be?

When the horse is relaxed (not holding his breath) you should be able to slip two fingers under the girth from back to front (taking care to pull them out exactly the same way to straighten the hair) directly under the center of the barrel. There is such a thing as over-tightening.

And for fun tell me one horse fact

Horses can poop while running/jumping/whatever. However, they have to stand still to pee.

1. How high on the withers should the saddle pad go?

It should be over the withers. The pommel of the saddle should be partially over the withers as well but behind the egde of the pad.

2. how do you not look stupid when your at a fast speed and then turn suddenly?

Stay with it. Feel its strides with your hips and follow them.

3. how do you get the horse to be on the right lead?

You pick up the inside rein and apply pressure with your outside leg.

4. what do you look for in a boarding place?

CLEAN. Roomy, efficent staff, certified trainers, healthy horses, green pastures. Basically good management.

5. how can you tell when the horse your riding is lame ( limping or somthing)

You can feel something odd about their stride. It can feel like they are jerking their legs forward on a certain diagonal, for example. It depends, but basically you feel something funny/irregular about their gait. You need have have ridden enought to be able to tell the differnce, tho.

6. at what speed should you start to lean forward?

You shouldn't really, except a tad at the gallop to free up your horse's back, or when you are going cross-country or jumping.

7. how come the horses froth when your riding them?

They're chewing on the bit.

8. how tight should your cinch be?

Pretty darn tight. Don't jerk at the cinch till you can't even fit a finger under it! Their lungs need room to expand so they can breath. This is why it's nice to have one of girths with the elastic at the ends. Make it tight so when you tug at it, the cinch doesn't give (or easily come off the horse's side). But make sure it is loose enough so you can fit you fingers under it.

And for fun tell me one horse fact

Horses can best see the color yellow and lastly the color red. =]
