Question about discharge

Breeze has crusty blood around the edge of her vulva, has for a week or so, its never dripping, its just there when you open her vulva.

Is this normal in late pregnancy? It continues to happen. thanks in advance

I'd have a vet out to check on her.

I've never heard of that before.

I second the call to the vet. Better to be safe than sorry.

Inside her vulva? My mare had a little bit outside her vulva once or twice. I believe a little bit is within normal, a lot is something to worry about, but it doesn't hurt to call and ask your vet.

I would at least call my Vet and talk to her. She could have an infection that could have a dire effect on the foal.

How close is she?

When they lose the mucus plug there will be crimson colored chunks on the vulva.

I seond the call to the vet, at least to give them a heads up.

Esp. if you clean her up, and it returns.

She is pretty close, and thats exactly what they are, crimson colored chunks on the edge. She is waxing, has milk and a full bag, and the foal has dropped into position. See pictures under the heading "Meet Breeze" of you want to. She has had all the classic signs of foaling, just not quite there.. Her vulva is relaxed, her tail head it also, so it shouldnt be long.

Actually I have a question to your answer, how long after they lose their mucous plug do they usually foal?

The vet was out here a couple weeks ago, when it started and said if it wasnt blood blood to not worry about it. She saw the crusting and didnt think it was worrisome. So she has been doing this about 2 weeks.

A bloody discharge from the vulva late in pregnancy is RARELY a sign of impending abortion. More often it is caused by the rupture of a vaginal varicose vein.

A day...or a week...or a month Get the picture? It's not a reliable indication of impending foaling.

Nope...I wouldn't worry about it either...
