Putting up fence in the winter?
I have never had to put up fence in the winter before and am wondering how hard it is too do or other ideas of what to do.
We are going to be renting a farm house out in the country with room for our horses. Right now the ground is frozen. How hard is it to drive T posts in the ground. I know not the best thing but could be temporary til the spring time. Some of it is already fenced in. I would say about 2/3 of the area is already fenced in. I am watching out for used round pen panels but we really don't have the money to go buy the brand new.
Anyone have suggestions on what to do?
I haven't tried putting t-posts into frozen ground but we did put treated wood posts in years ago... we had to pour very hot water into the ground to dig a little, then haul more hot water to dig a little more. It was not easy but we did get the fence put in. I would GUESS driving a t-post with a pounder may bend the post but I have no personal experience trying to get them into the frozen ground.

Thats what I was thinking too. They probably would bend and/or break.
My husband is going to look into renting a gas powered post hole digger. We read online that they can break threw frozen ground.
It is snowing here and I am hoping it will help soften up there ground. I know on our farm ground if we get the right amount of snow it will insulate the ground the thaw it out. So as long as we don't get too much we can then go out and work ground. Hoping the same thing will happen when we try and put posts in.
Any other ideas?
We put fence posts in here last January and it was difficult. If you can rent a post hole digger it should do the trick.

Hopefully that will work then. I wasn't sure if a post hole digger can put threw the frozen ground or not. Hopefully it will. Sure don't want to board the horses an extra 3 months
Hey guys, what's the best season in putting fence/barn for our horse? Is it good if we put it on barn most of the time and lock it up there?
Are you asking about keeping your horse locked up in the barn?
