| Senior Member+ | Putting together a basic grooming kit SOOOOOO, I get to go shopping today--for my first grooming kit! :-) My girl arrives in 15 days. So I know that after awhile you just start accumulating stuff and a grooming kit can become huge. That's not what I'm after--I need to know what few items to get to put together a full yet frugal kit for everyday use. Nothing fancy for showing or anything, just the bare necessities. So what are the things YOU use every day and couldn't be without? |

![]() | get a gelly scrubber for a curry comb and baths. It does great as a double duty item!!! Looks like the old style grooming mits, but has much softer teeth and comes in cool clear colors. It's the most frequently used item, followed by the hoof pick (get one with a brush, you'll use it more often than you think!) Huge congrats on the new horse!!! have a great time!!! |

| Full Member | What's in my grooming kit: hoof pick, dandy brush, body brush, small face brush, shedding blade, curry comb, a rag or sponge (for nostrils and cleaning), big comb, elastics, i have it all in a stool carrying case just in case i need to get high. I mostly use the dandy brush cause its a little stiffer with the shedding blade to scrape the hair out of the brush. Got some new brushes they are wicked.... "ergonomically correct" they are so much easier to work with.

![]() | hey, I forgot to tell you: Cowboy Magic Detangler and Shine!!! You will never regret that purchase. It has rescued many a tail at our barn. It only takes a little and last for at least 4 days. It's worth every penny. While you're at it, don't forget the fly spray. |

| Senior Member+ | Thanks for the advice and for the congrats. I am so excited (I've been counting down the days since day 32, lol...I know, it's taking a longer time than usual, that's a long story...) What's the diff. between a dandy brush and a body brush? I'm assuming one is hard and one is soft? lol... I've probably used both at my riding lessons, but I don't know what it's called, I just pull it out of the kit and go, "hm, this one seems about right!" For a curry--I'm assuming we're talking rubber? do they come in different hardnesses? Because I feel like I've used harder ones and softer ones. Which is better? |
