I have heard that pumpkin seeds are also a dewormer, but never bothered to ask for which worms. But since I don't own a horse and never had the chance to experiment with it, I don't know for sure. Maybe someone can give us some more information about that?

When I googled it last night I found some sites that also said that. Always cool when you get the extra bonus of a natural dewormer

I was just reading on another board about someone getting the little baking pumpkins, carving them up like a Halloween pumpkin, stuffing the insides with carrots and apples and stuff, and then presenting the whole thing to the horse, who just demolishes it I'm soooo gonna do that!
That sounds like a great treat, we have a few little pumpkins so I will try that out tomorrow. Thanks for the great idea.

i gave my guys a pumpkin with the "insides" scooped out and put carrots, apples, treats and molasses in it. cosmo loved it and ate like half of the pumpkin before i took it away from him. (didnt want him to eat too much even thought it was just one of the medium painting pumpkins) it was funny to see him try to fling it around and paw at it. he first dumped out the carrots and apples and ate them first. dude only took a few nibbles of the pumpkin but loved the apples, carrots and treats.

When my puppy had stomach issues I was told my the vet and on the dog forum to give him pumpkin and rice ... so I did and it worked LOL

for years as kids we feed our horses the guts of the pumpkins we craved

For sure! I understand that you can use it in conjunction to a good deworming program. It is just interesting that it helps the horse in that manner. I'm sure pumpkinseeds cannot take care of all the different kinds of worms and not all stages of lifecycles! Glad you pointed that out.

My thought is if the horse eats it, it is usually ok....unless the is starved.....I've got horses that will not eat grass bales, but will tear up a bale of alfala mix hay........
