LOL Pull the mane is used to shorten and thin out the mane. Having a thinner mane means its easier and looks better when it comes to plating for a show. The idea is to take a peice of hair that is longer than the rest of the mane and with a pulling comb push the other hair away from it. then you pull out the bit of mane you have in your hand. It doesnt hurt them altho some horses dont like the tugging feeling on the necks.
Dont no wat other sort of 'jargen' you want lol but ask...

Yup, you actually pull the hair out Not all at once, like TC said - you grip a few longer hairs pref. on the underside of the mane, back comb the rest of the mane while holding the hairs, then either wrap them around your finger or the comb, and give a sharp tug to remove them.

Oh yer and just a word of warning... dont take to much to pull at once, you will annoy the horse and also hurt your hands!

I do *not* reccomend pulling the hair out with your fingers. Use one of those small metal combs and save yourself alot of agony.

^^ I think it depends on the mane. On my 1/2 TB darling (who looks and is built like a TB), I can easily do his with my hands only. However, with the half clyde pony I was working with, I needed to use a comb.

Thanks for the answers. I don't show my horse so I am out of the loop when it comes to these show terms. I do like to braid my pony's hair like she was in shows though. That is just because she is the queen of the farm and always has to look good. She kind of has an ego problem. LOL
