Pulling a horse's mane when the horse hates it?

I'm not sure if I'm going to actually pull her mane, but I was thinking of thinning it. But she hates it when I do that, and she dances around a lot. I've tried doing it while she eats, but she'll stop eating whenever I go to do anything to her mane. Its fairly thick, and she definitely looks better with a long mane (it sticks up funny when it's short ), but I want to make her a bit more comfortable for when it gets hot.

lol, I wish I could explain this to her, then maybe she'd put up with it.

So, any ideas?

Invest in a Solocomb.

Solocomb? Is that that neat comb that moves and kinda cuts the hairs away?

Oh neat!! I'll definitely be investing in that! I think it'll make her much happier. ^_^ Especially since I'm not that good at pulling.

I used to pull everyone and everything whether it was my Jumpers or my Pleasure/HUS horses -- now I don't torture them or my fingers (which end up turning a lovely purpley-blue) and use a Solocomb. I've heard people claim you can tell the difference....if don't correctly and carefully with the Solocomb, I don't believe you can.

there is also this thing called smarttails... even though it is called tails it can be used on the mane aswell.. it thins the mane without pain and gives quite a good result!

What I've done also is flip the mane on the oposite side it naturally lays (basically a backwards "pull") and I use a small razor blade to "thin" that way I can get super close to the crest.

What type of razor do you use for that?
