Proper Forelocks

Okay...so I know that we always braid for shows and such, and I always do her forlock too...but my question is...do ya'll "pull" or trim forelocks? I just let Dawns be natural so far, but when I show her, I'm wondering if it will make some huge braid ball lol. What do you do? Her mane is kept pulled and tidy...so that won't be a problem at all.....

i owned an arab who didn't have his hair pulled or cut so his was always kept long and flowing, but my TB barely even has hair, so we never pulled or trimmed his forelock, just his mane, BUT my friends always trimed the forelock to braid it....and i'll prolly do the same for my paint i recently bought

Trimmed forelock?
I never touched Mickey's forelock rather than simply brush it. Although, its kinda long now, and I need it braided.....

what you do it you french braid the forlock untill you can't french braid anylonger, then do a normal braid the rest of the way down. take a carpet hook (i think that's what they are called, they are little hooks that can close) and stick it down through the top of the french braid (or low enough that icome out the bottom, underneath the braid) then put the yarn ( you braid yarn into the regular part of the braid by taking a long peice of yarn folding it in half then taking one end with one bunch or hair and the other with another bunch of hair) into the clasp and pull the regular braid through the french braid, but only up untill it's about to come out the top (you should not see it coming out the top) then stick the hook through the side of the braid, alittle below where it comes out the top of the braid (the yarn should come out the top) so the hook goes from right to left then tak one peice of yarn put it on the hook and pull it through, then do the exact opposite (aka, left to right, at same point) with the other peice of yarn. the tie both peices together in a knot
unless the forelock is XTREMELY long you shouldn't have to pull it and cut it. here is a pic of my horses forlock braided

these aren't too good at showing the forelock but are the only ones I got

My mom usually does the forelock the same way as the bump braids. She braids them down, and then does the string-thing, and then uses the latch hook to pull it back through. (Sorry, I can't braid to save my life. )

I do not pull my pony's forlock and it is quite long, I usually have to double it over after I have already braided it. I prefer the long look on him. For other horses you do pull the forlock and the shape should make a "V", with the longest hairs in the middle, and gradually shorter on the sides. But it is not entirelly necessary to pull it, it really depends on your preference.
