Promoting Trainers

Okay so I've noticed a lot of people pushing the trainers they really like on people (ie Parelli, Clinton Anderson, Monty) It just really bugs me. You can come onto here and offer advice without saying "I recomend you buy _______, it will make your horse a lot better and make things easier" Like instead you could say "well I've been using _______'s Method and it has worked great! This is what you do __________." Instead of doing the above mentioned. People dont like it when you totally push things on them and I try to avoid saying "Parelli is THE best trainer, buy all his stuff!" instead I try to tell someone what to do to solve their problem rather than telling them they need to buy a certain product to begin fixing it. Thats what people come here for, not to be bombarded with programs and products.

I agree with that. There are plenty of trainers I like, but I wouldn't ever push them on someone.. besides that, I'd have way too big of a list of trainers for people to study.. lol!

THANK YOU! I completely agree with this.

There are some users who I don't even bother reading anymore, because the advice is always the same. "Buy so and so's such and such, it will fix everything!"

No thank you, I know about those guys, and I know where to find their stuff. If you have experience with an issue, that is what I want to hear about. If your experience WAS learned from someone else, by all means, credit your teachers! But please, if I want to know more, I will ask, by PM or whatever.

Thanks again for bringing this up PPNH, I apparently don't have the backbone.

If you are then so am I.

Never be afraid to state what you feel. If it is presented in a correct manner then it is as valid as any other opinion.

I am not a fan of any "trainer" that espouses you require special equipment, books or any other device to make their methods work. They are not trainers to me.

I practice parelli, John Lyons and natural horsemanship and it comes free and everyone has it.

It is called common sense !!

I think that sometimes valuable information is lost when others attempt to explain the techniques of accomplished trainers. Therefore I think it is best to get that information straight from the source. I much prefer to view the trainer's dvd or video myself opposed to having so and so tell me about it.
Just my opinion.

Well in that case I think you should say "Does anyone know of any videos or material I can look at?" If someoene requests it specifically then its okay but dont just leave someone high and dry by saying "Get this video, get this book, you'll be okay" Say "While I was watching this video I saw something that could help, this is what they did, if you have questions about it you can pm me *or* the video was called ______"

There is a liability issue too, that some people look at. When giving advice, things go wrong, they blame you. So there are some that prefer to say who they get advice from, even if it costs money. But that is the wonderful world of horses. Some will tell how they do things, others will tell where THEY Got their advice without offering anything direct because they don't feel comfortable enough to explain it completely.

Sometimes it is best NOT to give advice if you cannot explain it fully.

But don't fret, Everyone has their pet peeves!! LOL

yea this is true. i try to say why i recomend parelli methods which i follow and then tell them that parelli follows this so they know where they can find more information. i try not to just bombard them with parelli parelli parelli but im so passionate about it sometimes its hard and i have to work on my self control haha! i support all forms of natural horsemanship but i know parelli the best and i follow it and see the results so thats the method i explain. its worse when the horse is suffering unecessarily - then i think my self control just goes out the window and im jsut like " try parelli quick before you and your horse get hurt!!!!"
but yea. anyway! good point painted pnh.
