| Senior Member+ | Problems with Long Term Use of OTC Ulcer Meds?
Has anyone heard reports about any permanent side-effects of using OTC ulcer 'treatments' (U-7, u-gard 2x, Neighlox)? This is the new rumor circulating through the barns in the area. Something about increased bacterial resistance, something wrong with the gut? I didn't hear the whole conversation. The ingredients seem fairly innocuous?

I haven't heard anything from reputable sources on that. However, there is concern that when you use these "ulcer medicines" which really are NOT curative for ulcers that you may be doing harm due to causing a rebound in the stomach where more acid is produced to compensate for the lowered acidity on the stomach and that the acidity is then raised above normal by this excess production of acid.
